  • Rick Majerus on recruiting in-state kids

with comments from others as well...

    "I recruited every (in-state) kid I could"
"If you live in a place where the talent is moderately deep, I think in-state recruiting is the lifeblood of your program"

I agree with Coach Majerus. I think its especially important for state schools. I do think all schools should begin with their base home state and region and then branch out from there if you absolutely have to.

The irony is that SLU will not be able to maintain whatever level of success they had last year and should continue this year because they have struggled recruiting - specifically players from the area.

They landed the runner up to Mr. Basketball in Illinois this year. They're doing fine in recruiting.

maybe - but also maybe not so fast -- news trickling out slowly and unreliably that Keith Carter who finished #2 in Mr. Basketball voting has reportedly still not yet been cleared nor admitted to Saint Louis leading to fears he may still end up somewhere else...
          time will tell........

The only problem with this story is that he's already on campus and enrolled classes. You are correct on the fact that he finished number 2 in Mr Basketball voting. So you're batting .500 - nobody's perfect.

And to keep this from going off the rails I think Bradley is in a great geographic location being 3-4 hours drive away from 4 major metro areas. Utah is a bit different situation.

maybe you remember a kid named Daniel West, and another named Kenyon Smith -- and even a couple more at Kansas named JAMARI TRAYLOR AND BEN MCLEMORE... so how does signing a kid up for classes prove he's cleared by NCAA - heck - even high school juniors can take college classes
...and it is not my batting average at question - just what others are saying about the kid - personally I took no sides, so I guess I'm still at .1000

                So, one for every 10?

I say Rick Majerus landed the #2 player in the Illinois Mr. Basketball rankings.(true)
You claimed that maybe he didn't because he has yet to enroll or be accepted into SLU and may go somewhere else. (False)
I say he is already enrolled, on campus, etc at Saint Louis University. (True)
You shift your claim to "Well the NCAA might not declare him eligible. (Possible still but not known until most likely September-October)

The fact of the NCAA ruling him ineligible would mean he would sit out a year similar to Ben McLemore at Kansas. Him going elsewhere for a year would not change that ruling. Don't try to rephrase to an entirely different argument. You were wrong with what you said.

it is as it is - Keith Carter and his leanings bounced around so much some people's heads are still spinning....sorry it bothers you so much...but there is still concern if he's cleared...
Even SLU's own recruiting web sites have yet to name KC as a commit because they know something...and they also know there's been no paperwork signed either - very odd from your perspective but expected given mine...

Stay up to date with all the College sports news, recruiting, transfers, and more at 247Sports.com

That doesn't mean is won't happen - it did with guys like John Wall & Renardo Sydney even though anyone else with their background would have been denied.... it's all who ya know...

but if the kid is ineligible then using him as an example of how Majerus is "doing fine in recruiting" might just be debatable.

Majerus' recruiting has gotten a lot of high praise from some - but I sure wonder had BU had as many serious arrests, dismissals, issues etc...what would have been said about their "recruiting"...

                      Sigh...

Here is a link for you. http://www.slu.edu/peoplefinder

Put Carter in the search field. You'll find him about 5 down as "kc carter".

He is a student at Saint Louis University. But feel free to keep going down the wrong path.

And who exactly has been arrested? One player was dismissed who was a complete moron.

                      Typical.

again - and I will say it real clear - that anyone in existence can sign up or enroll in a college - you don't even need to be out of high school or even need to be an athlete let alone an athlete cleared by NCAA to be on scholarship - so your link proves nothing whatsoever..
and as I said - we have seen countless times where a kid does enroll - only to have NCAA much later decline to clear him - I gave the Daniel West, Kenyon Smith, McLemore, Traylor examples - but I can give you almost as many as you want - Guy Marc Michel at IU and closer here to home - Daniel Ruffin, Jermaine Brown...and it's not like a whole lot of examples don't come from the Chicago area public schools...in fact just about the whole starting five of Derrick Rose's Simeon - were ultimately disqualified and Rose should have been as well (Smith, Flowers, Johnson)...but all AFTER they were already enrolled in college.

AND IT WOULDN'T EVEN BE MAJERUS' FIRST EXPERIENCE with this situation either...
so I don't know how it'll turn out - Carter might get cleared - but it hasn't happened yet and nobody's actually talking about it yet because it is NOT a certainty..but just being physically presdent there does not determine the NCAA's call although I gotta believe RM is hoping it does..

                          your words:

You've changed your argument. I was simply pointing out that he HAS been admitted to SLU and he is on campus and is attending classes. NCAA clearance can be an issue up to the start of the season for anyone, so I never tried to speak to that and said so earlier. Want me to break it down more slowly so you understand?

he's a part time student taking summer courses - hoping for a favorable NCAA ruling and he cannot sign scholarship paperwork until he's cleared
