I watched Okawville's games yesterday and today, and Noah Frederking is a nice Class 1A player and he kept his team in the game, though they lost.
And I am reluctant to say anything negative, but I am not sure what Marty Simmons saw that lead him to offer a scholarship at Evansville.
The kid would probably have trouble finding playing time on the top Class 3A or 4A teams in the state. He is not a point guard at all, and rarely handles the ball. He plays more of a power forward position for his team, which won't work in D1 (he is maybe 6'4" at most). And, there isn't any way he wiil be able to defend D1 shooting guards or forwards. I saw Marty Simmons in high school and college, and he was way more dominant and a scoring machine. There is no comparison.
I'd be surprised if Frederking doesn't redshirt next season, and he'll probably eventually play below D1 level.
By the way- here is some trivia- in looking up Marty Simmon's scoring average his senior year at Lawrenceville (31.9 ppg).
I was reminded that 3 of the top 10 high school single-season scorers in IHSA history played for Bradley.
Does anyone know what players had the top 2 all-time single-season scoring averages? They both played their entire college careers at Bradley.
And as noted, 3 of the top 10 highest single-season scoring averages were by players who played for Bradley.
The first 2 are easy. Anyone know who the 3rd one was?
Hint: he was not much of a scorer for Bradley. He scored only a total of 106 points in 2 seasons as a Brave.

if anyone saw....
Evansville signee Noah Frederking just led his Class 1A Okawville team all the way to the IHSA Class 1A Championship game then they took home the Runnerup Trophy.
Frederking is a talented 6-3 or 6-4 kid, strong, not slender at all and had Marty-Simmons-like skills....
In fact for anyone who is old enough it's kind of uncanny how much the kid makes you think of Marty when Marty was playing for Lawrenceville.
The differences, Noah is an inch or two shorter and he never really displayed the deadeye long distance touch...
I can assure you that he won't get 80% of the points he got today once he arrives in the MVC as he does not get too far off the floor and a large percentage of his points come from using his bulk to maneuver & bull his way against small, skinny 1A opponents and get into the lane and put up short shots and layups.
Any team with a shot blocker would negate 75-80% of those shots.
The IHSA website says he takes only about 32% of his shots from beyond the 3-pt arc (171 of 527) and makes 38.6% (66-171)
Time will tell if he adjusts to DI but it's a pretty big step up from 1A ball.

Don't short change klint Carlson. He is their best offensive player over morgan imo and is a legitimate poy candidate next year. They need help at the guard spots and if bennet Koch could channel his brothers a little bit they would have a fighting chance. But they appear to be a ways away from what they had been the last half decade or so.

kinda hard to believe tho, but just a little earlier this season they beat both Arizona State and Oklahoma with the exact same players plus Jeremy Morgan

There isn't a single player on that team besides Morgan that makes me worry.
I was thinking the same thing. I posted my thoughts on all their new players here-

well, I guess that's possible....but come on....Adam McDermott is not Doug McDermott...
he's a walk-on sophomore transfer from Univ. of North Dakota who averaged 6.7 ppg there.

Huenermann for Indiana State and Midtgaard for Wichita are the only two signees that hadn't been previously expected to sign...
and with only one day left in this fall's signing period, SIU's Demarius Jacobs finally signs his Letter of intent

FALL RECRUITING CLASSES - assuming all these guys will sign...
There might still still be more but once recruits' season starts then most turn their attention to their own team and verbals will slow down..
Here's how I'd rank the ten MVC teams on who they've got verballed...
1- Bradley - I know I am biased but BU has two solid big kids who can help right away
2- UNI - surprise to some because UNI only has one kid pledged, but he's ranked #3 in IA- impressive but a weak Iowa '17 class
3- Wichita - likewise, they only have one guy but he looks to be a solid PG juco prospect
4- Loyola - 2 solid guys if healthy & develop- Negron's knee keeps Loyola from being 1 or 2. (rest of MVC from 5-10 are close)
5- Indiana State - they have three guys but a couple are pretty obscure
6- Missouri State - again - three verbals but fairly unknown..
7- Evansville - both verbals are good players, Frederking a good shooter - but both under the radar ***
8- Illinois State - the potential for a couple solid players but both played at really small high schools
9- Drake - seem to love undersized IL guards - they already have Ore Arogundade & CJ Rivers who average 4-5 ppg
10- SIU only one verbal and again, played against pretty small-school opponents - time will tell
*** someone ought to call the Evansville writer and correct the guy..
he just said in his column...LINK
".."Okawville has about 180 students and mostly plays against schools with 600-1,000.
....and
(Evansville head coach Marty) Simmons attended Lawrenceville High School ??“ which competes in the same class as Okawville (the school Evansville's newest commit attends).."
but he's wrong on several counts...
-first- Noah Frederking's school Okawville officially has 160 students per IHSA enrollment criteria.
-second- they play in a conference where every single other team has 140 to 170 enrollment so most of their games are against very tiny schools. They probably play some much larger but they play most of their games against their conference opponents.
-last- Marty Simmons' school, Lawrenceville is NOT in the same class as Okawville. Lawrenceville has 350 kids- more than twice the enrollment as Okawville and plays in 2A, while Okawville plays in the smallest class, 1A.
- Unless something changed from last year, I don't believe they are in a conference for basketball.
- They do play some much larger schools during the season (Breese Mater-Dai, Breese Central, Nashville, Trenton) in tournaments, but probably closer to the 400-700 student range on these.
I do think that ability to guard will be the one thing in question.
I'll reserve comment on the ranking of recruiting classes at this point, although agree that the bias towards Bradley being the top is definitely true. My Aces I feel are definitely in the lower half right now.

agree- what's prohibited is the staff watching him if he participates in any way with the players

I don't think "staff members" refers to coaches, but administrative staff within the athletic department.
If he was attending a practice session, then coaches were already there conducting practice.
You may be confusing that with him playing in a pick-up game, where coaches cannot be in attendance.

More...interest just started up late this summer...
He's on the junior team of the Horsholm 79ers on the Danish pro league, that's the same league that ex-Manual Ram &
ex-BU recruit Lawrence Alexander plays in but Alexander plays with the senior club team of Horsens
..and ISU's Devaughn Akoon-Purcell & Iowa's Mike Gesell play for Bakken
also - wonder if this should have been kept quiet..
Last week when he was visiting on campus and was at a Shocker practice session....
his presence ..."caused several staff members to peek in to marvel at his size."
But they are not supposed to observe at all, right?
