but everyone and their mother noted a distinct change after the Villanova game in late February --
the speculation is clearly that there's been a falling out and things are now different from when Marquette was winning

..that's the entire point - they went from a Top 10 team to suddenly losing to anybody & everybody then getting pummeled by Murray State
Using your argument that everything was hunky-dory before Feb. 27 so it must still be the same is like saying obviously
the Hausers were hunky-dory with Wojo for 3 years so it must be the same & they love the guy- but obviously it is NOT

Markus Howard is the major reason Marquette won 24 games. He is one of the top shooting guards in the country. He passed up a near-certain 1st round draft slot to return to Marquette for his senior season. Nearly every Marquette fan would gladly trade the Hauser brothers for another year of having Howard at Marquette.
Howard averaged 25 ppg and shot over 40% from three despite being double-teamed every game. In fact, Howard being double-teamed is a major reason the Hausers put up pretty good numbers. He lead them in scoring in 2/3 of their games. And he was not a one dimensional gunner. He lead the team in assists by a wide margin, despite being a shooting guard, not a point guard. He got to the free throw line almost 8 times per game and shot almost 90% from the line. He also averaged 4.0 rebounds per game, not bad for a shooting guard. He also is a good defensive player, and lead the team in steals.
The problem at Marquette is not Markus Howard. It is the father of the Hauser brothers who wasn't satisfied that his boys weren't the top stars.

Using that strange logic, Elijah Childs and Nate Kennell should leave Bradley and transfer because Darrell Brown takes more shots than they do.
And the great 1986 Bradley team had very good players other than Hersey Hawkins. Should Jim Les and Mike Williams have bolted for another school because they didn't like Hersey Hawkins taking more shots?

possibly, as I said people's opinions are mixed - but the only thing that matters is what did the Hausers think?
If they were gonna leave purely because of the coach, then why wait until after Howard announces his decision then leave right away afterwards?

Yes, he did. He specifically thanked his teammates. He did not thank his coach. But I'm sure there will be plenty of conspiracy theories.

well duh...that's who's responsible for putting ball hogs, gunners and chemistry-wreckers on the floor...
and steering the whole team off course in the 2nd half of the season...
Everyone saw it - Marquette went from TOP TEN RANKED to completely out of the rankings in just 3 weeks down the stretch then bumped from the tourney. all this happened simultaneously with the team morphing into the Markus Howard Show.

I seriously doubt Sam Hauser spent 3 whole years loving Wojo, playing 35 minutes per game and giving his all - even getting his own brother to come and play there then suddenly having an epiphany one night and just personally hating the guy bad enough to want to sit out a full year just to get away from him.

Interesting theory, but I don't agree. I don't think the Hauser brothers are concerned about not getting enough shots. Plus, the Hausers, who are close friends with Markus Howard, have already said that Howard's decision to return next year had nothing to do with their decision to leave, and certainly not enough of a reason to transfer and have to sit out a full year, and probably even lose an entire year of eligibility. Maybe they are lying, but I think this looks a lot more like it is about their relationship with the coach going bad.

One clue might be in this Twitter post by Sam Hauser where he expresses thanks to everyone at Marquette, except the one person he has spent the most time with. I think it is very telling that he does not even mention or reference his coach Steve Wojciechowski.

A few comments indicate there was perceived to be a "locker room rift" and a couple people mentioned it on the message boards...

    https://twitter.com/LoganSimios/stat...66359239561216

just look at the box scores down the stretch - Marquette lost their final four regular season games
then proceeded to lose 2 of their 3 post-season games for a final month of 1-6
..and in pretty much every game Markus Howard jacked a ton of shots, grabbed few rebounds and turned the ball over a bunch
as in this game that is said to have started the rift - https://gomarquette.com/boxscore.aspx?id=6140&path=mbball
..and this game where he was 1-15 from the floor -
    https://gomarquette.com/boxscore.asp...46&path=mbball

In one game (a loss), he took 27 shots to score 26 pts - https://gomarquette.com/boxscore.asp...51&path=mbball

Overall, in those final 7 games, Markus Howard went 47-133 (kind of a whole season for some players)
    - that's almost 20 shots per game while shooting just 35%..
and only 29.6% from 3-pt - while averaging over that span just 3 rebs per game and almost 5 turnovers per game.

The instant Howard announced he would be returning to Marquette (because pretty much everyone knows that a
5-11 shooting guard ain't gonna get a whole lot of looks from the NBA when he hits just 29% and turns the ball over all the time)
Then the Hauser brothers realized their chances of touching the ball next season were slim & none.

to make things worse - one new incoming transfer Marquette will have next year is Koby McEwen from Utah State..
who is very similar - a shooting guard who launches a ton of shots (almost 400 shot attempts and 203 3-pt attempts last year)
but who also hits surprisingly low shooting percentages (40% overall and 33% from 3-pt)

There are likely deeper issues going on with the Hausers and Head Coach Steve Wojciechowski, because this doesn't make much sense otherwise. Marquette would have been returning their entire starting lineup and would have been a Top 10 team in the preseason polls next year.
The older brother, Sam Hauser has already told a reporter that he and Joey plan to transfer to the same school. Other head coaches are already lining up to try to land them. They have not said where they might consider, but the speculation centers on Virginia, Wisconsin, or Michigan State. Less likely are other Big Ten teams like Indiana, Purdue, or Michigan. It might depend on who can free up a couple scholarships.

Sam is a junior, and is not in a position to graduate, so he'll have to sit out a year and have 1 year left to play.
Joey redshirted his first season at Marquette, and then played his redshirt-freshman season this past year. He'll also have to sit out a year with a transfer. But because sitting out again will mean he is burning a second redshirt year, he will have only 2 years left to play unless he can get a special waiver from the NCAA to get an extra year.

The Hausers were the 2nd and 3rd leading scorers for Marquette this past season. Markus Howard, the leading scorer had already announced that he was returning and not seeking to enter the NBA draft. I wonder if he might reconsider that choice now.

Here's a couple transfers that might be of interest to our staff..but I'd be very surprised if they go mid-major...both are originally from Stevens Point, WI (about 40 mi. west of Green Bay)
Sam Hauser & Joey Hauser are two brothers who Bradley initially recruited and offered but they both landed at Marquette

They are both leaving & transferring from Marquette - Sam is junior (15 ppg/7 rpg) and Joey is a freshman (10 ppg/5 rpg) - both average double digits
    http://www.wtmj.com/news/report-sam-...tte/1069221146

one of the rumors among Marquette fans on their board is that with Markus Howard returning (25 ppg but almost 20 shot attempts PER GAME) - that the Hauser brothers simply wanted to touch the ball a bit more often. - some believe they are transferring & headed to Virginia...

I think the advice Fisher will get from every NBA evaluator will be to return to college and use his remaining two years of eligibility...
if he heeds that advice - he will become a hot commodity but I think we still might have a shot at him...

Rodgerick "Rod" Brown was recruited by Bradley and offered...
he is from Memphis - altho I don't think he is related to Darrell Brown -
but there's certainly evidence that they know each other...

Rod Brown landed at Wichita but is now leaving and transferring - could Bradley still have interest?
The bad news is that he has already burned his redshirt year in 2017-18 but he's already 21 and still has potentially 3 years left.
So he may go juco for one year otherwise sitting out somewhere will waste that entire year of eligibility.
