Bradley lost a player named Pierre Cooper with a blood clot which sounds similiar to what Pomlee had last year.

I know the doctor who treated Pierre Cooper's blot clot situation, and it was similar, although in one respect, a bit different.
Pierre's clots were so extensive that virtually every vein in one of his legs was clotted, and numerous clots had already broken loose and "embolized" to his lungs. Once that degree of vein damage existed, it became virtually impossible to ever play again, which is why Pierre's situation prohibited him from ever returning to the game.
Pomlee's clots were described as only in one vein from the knee level to the ankle, which is of course much, much less extensive and not accompanied by the life threatening complication of the embolization to the lungs.
