Vandermeer score 3 points, 8 rebounds and 0 blocks in last years game. Josh Mayo had a good game with 16 points on 7 for 13 shooting.

Last year, UIC played Bradley's game and tried to run with them (81-72). I think tempo will be a key to this year's game.

I am staying home - gonna hang out and listen to Snell and Coach. I might even post in a game thread often.

Honestly, with it getting colder and the deer 'starting to move'... smart move (IMO for me) to stay home than make the drive to a Peoria establishment to watch the game.

For anyone in the Chicago area who wants to listen to the game on radio, the UIC Flames just announced their games will be broadcast by WIND 560 AM radio. Saturday's game against Bradley is their first broadcast.

          Streaming Video

Also, for those that can't make it to the game but would like to watch it, UIC usually streams all of its home games through the Horizon League Network for free. It's never a 100% certainty that the game will come on, but this is a big game and I assume they will play it. There is currently a "watch" link for the game on the main horizon league page which leads me to believe that they will be showing it. But the game is not currently listed in the list of live events on the HL network page....so who knows. It is an option though, so if there's no way you can see the game, keep checking the HLN site out to see if they will be streaming it.

You do have to register (very fast), and the video is fairly good quality, but the viewing area is very small (probably about the size of a post-it). You can increase the size but the quality obviously decreases.

          Enjoy!

The main sports web page for UIC has a new grapic pumping the BU game and their Melafusic promotion--

And the Chicago Sun Times had a nice story about Josh Mayo yesterday. He sounds like a great kid--

Is David Collins related to Jimmy Collins?

We're still not even mentioned on their board ... is this that much of a non-event for you guys at UIC?

UIC is mostly an urban commuter college. There is not much of a true campus atmosphere there. When students finish classes, they head home and to their jobs. There is just not a lot of interest in the sports teams, and their message board reflects that.

I just checked their board, and there was only 1 person viewing the board when I checked around 10 am. At the same time, there were over 50 viewers on the Bradleyfans board. They have only 190 members signed up and the board has been up and running since November, 2004--that's longer than Bradleyfans has been in existence (Jan, 2005).

                        Pregame notes:

The Bradley men's basketball team will open its 104th season Saturday by visiting Illinois-Chicago in a 7:05 p.m. game that will be televised throughout Central Illinois by Insight Communications.? Saturday's games against the Flames will be just the third all-time meeting between the two teams.? The Braves will be shooting for their seventh straight season-opening win.? Get prepared for Saturday's game by checking out the Pregame Notes.

UIC is starting to change though. The Trib ran an article recently about how something like 25% of UIC undergrads now live on campus. That's a huge increase from about 10 years ago. Also the neighborhoods around campus have gotten more popular over the years, there's many more bars and stuff then there used to be.

But you're right...interest in UIC sports is middling. Having grown up here I've kind of concluded that Chicago is just not much of a college sports town.

BU is an early 5 point favorite out of Vegas. If I were a betting man (which I am), I would say take the Braves.

Speaking of favs. My little brother is in Vegas and called. NCAA championship odds at the book joints.

                              BU 500 to 1
                              Illini 75 to 1
                              SIU 100-1
                              VCU 250 to 1

The favorite was UCLA. That is all I can remember. He put $5 on the Braves for me.
