Former Bradley & ISU target Brandon Johnson has suddenly left TF South High School in mid-season and transferred to Gary Bowman HS...
I doubt he will be eligible to play there the rest of this season but he remains committed to Western Michigan

He will reportedly be eligible immediately according to his new coach-

In his first game at #5 ranked Gary Bowman in Indiana, Brandon Johnson started and scored 22..
but their opponent, #7 ranked Crown Point raced out quickly to a 20 point 1st half lead & "cruised" easily cruised to a 21 point win over Bowman

Johnson only had 2 points in each of the first three periods and scored most all of his points late, in the 4th quarter when Crown point had apparently let up a bit..

        but here's something really odd....

Their 2-time State Champion & "legendary" head coach (Marvin Rea) got fired last season amid a bunch of controversy and allegedly trumped up issues

But even that's not the end of it. ....he was re-hired when they realized kids would leave the school in protest over it and was allowed to coach in the post-season
but...this season they have a new principle and a new coach, Migel Nunnery

Anyone remember Brandon Johnson?? (from TF South HS in Chicago area then transferred to Gary, IN Bowman HS)

Lots of midmajors pursued him and watched him closely....
Bradley offered, and Johnson even visited Bradley - but once we got our commits - we backed of...
ISU reportedly pursued him seriously and wanted him...

But in the end lots of other schools backed off and passed on him and he signed at Western Michigan...

He is now kinda surprising people - and doing exceptionally well...
In WMU's first five games Johnson has started all five and played very well, averaging 10 ppg & 6 rpg in his freshman year.

Former 2016 Bradley recruit 6'8" forward Brandon Johnson, who Geno Ford recruited and offered a scholarship to back in September, 2014, ultimately chose to go to Western Michigan (see the above posts in this thread). Geno Ford liked him, but when Geno was fired in March of 2015 and Brian Wardle took over and began to rebuild the roster, Johnson dropped off Bradley's recruiting radar.
He had a pretty good career at Western Michigan, then transferred as a grad-transfer to Minnesota last spring-

It was expected that as a mid-major caliber player, Johnson would just be a backup player to Liam Robbins and the other Minnesota big men. But yesterday, on Christmas night, Minnesota played Iowa, and though former Drake center Liam Robbins had a good game (18 points, 5 rebounds), the other Minnesota starting forward Isaiah Ihnen only had 2 points, the 2 other reserve big men combined for only 2 points and NO rebounds. Between all of the Minnesota big men, they could not stop Iowa's preseason All American Luke Garza, who had 32 points and 17 rebounds in the game.

But, Brandon Johnson, who had averaged 6.0 ppg through the Gophers' first 6 games, bailed his team out. He came off the bench, went 8-9 from three in the game, and had 26 points, to go along with a team-leading 9 rebounds to help Minnesota beat the #4 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 102-95 in OT. Johnson scored MInnesota's first 12 points of overtime, with a 4-4 performance from three to help them pull away for the win.

Minnesota's top 3 scorers, and 4 of their top 5 scorers this season are transfers from other schools- Marcus Carr (Pitt), Liam Robbins (Drake), Both Gach (Utah), & Brandon Johnson (Western Michigan). Richard Pitino has built a pretty good team by recruiting players from other schools' rosters.
