The Story Seems to Change

I duno about that. I'm sure he would be advised not to talk to the media while the case is still pending, isn't that what attornies usually tell their clients?

Yes, which makes it all the more curious that his accuser has spoken to both the PJ Star and to WYZZ already.

I found it odd too, it almost seems like she feels the need to defend herself. Maybe she's valid in defending herself though with all the different versions of the story that are out.

I don't think it's that crazy that this girl has spoken to the media. She's a 20 year old college student who reported what she believes was a crime. She probably hasn't even talked to a lawyer at this point and when someone called her and asked her what happened she told them.

Agree, agree but....

Agree, agree but....

I certainly agree with everything posted on this thread and everyone has made some very valid points, however when it comes to situations like this - either in school, at work or in the home the accused in these cases is virtually guilty from the onset because our society has simply been forced to make these situations 'zero tolerance'! Examples include 7 yr old boys suspended from school for kissing a girl during recess, male employees fired for their comments in front of a female employee, and etc. I like most of you don't know what happened but unfortunately something happened - his fault, her fault but whatever it was it boils down to she said with a cut lip - and in our societies book today - he's guilty and that won't be erased by what we all say and want to happen for Daniel!

I just hope that Bradley shows some compassion towards Daniel and his family and at least allows him to participate in the pre-game senior night events with his family! I like most of you all beleive Daniel to be a great young man - unfortunately bad things sometimes happen to good people!

I don't believe anyone else has posted this yet:

The administration could go ahead and assume him guilty until proven innocent, and punish him right away. I believe there is precedent at BU for punishments related to a misdemeanor such as battery (i.e. Jabbar Battle?). In this case, there would probably be a 2 game suspension and the player would be back after a first offense.

What benefit would BU have in waiting for the entire legal process to play out, when the potential punishment from a guilty verdict would likely be less than what would result from "waiting out the system."?? This is a misdemeanor charge!

That's exactly what they did when they suspended him within hours of the incident. They assumed him guilty from the start because he had been arrested.

Usually battered women aren't talking to the media telling everyone how beat up they are. They're usually afraid of further abuse, embarrassed and upset by the situation, or being advised by their lawyers not to say anything. Her comments to the TV station make it sound like she's leading the charge for battered women everywhere. Strange.

I'm just saying why leave him on the bench for 4-7 or 8 games while the "system plays out", when his guilty verdict punishment may have only been 2-3 games.

Guilty before being proven innocent isn't fair, but that scenario REALLY wouldn't be fair.

The more she talks to the media, the more it makes me think she may have exaggerated the extent of her injuries. It seems like she is trying to get the pity vote from the media (Which she has gotten so far), and i hope that as the facts emerge we can get a clear story....

I just have a feeling in my gut that this young woman is trying to get her fifteen minutes of fame.

ER3 -- I don't disagree with you. What I was getting at was Bradley should surely be doing their own investigation, and if their preferred course is to "let the legal process" run and make the decision based on that, then I believe he should be playing while the legal process is running its course.

That's a pretty terrible way to get your 15 min of fame, particularly in a Peoria. I really doubt that's what's happening, but (as I've said before) there are a lot of crazy girls out there (like almost all of them).

In the end it's probably going to be the worst that this situation is getting played out in the media because now everyone thinks that they know what happened and what Braldey should do. If very few (or no) facts were released, then they could handle the whole situation in house without worring too much about the media (and probably the NCAA). I really hope they don't see us going too lightly and punish us for a major program's failure to punish (Indiana, UoI)...

Well, it certainly makes me think the charges will not be dropped in a couple hours.

FWIW
I have now learned that it does not help to attempt to discuss all of these updates to a person who's family had been affected by a very real domestic abuse history. Real domestic abuse is an absolute tradegy. (Note, I am not trying to speculate anything into Ruffin's case, just informing you on parts of what is happening within some public opinion circles)

To a person who's family was affected by domestic abuse, "Use of hands and feet" is equally bad as "choking" is equally bad as "cut/busted lip".

When you attempt to talk about these updates as somehow being "better" they, instead see a cumulative abuse that is worse.

Just be careful on how you approach this subject with others..

I've read a couple things today and yesterday that said Ruffins next court appearance is on my birthday of Mar. 18th at 9am. No legal proceedings will take place before that the stories have said. Course with this situation changing by the minute, it's hard to tell what is really happening.

Jason

I read on another thread that there is a court appearance at 3 PM. Know one knew exactly for what.

BTW. ER3 is probably spot on.
