Mcgee to Auburn

I was close to sending out some private messages tonight to a few people to inform them that this was what I heard earlier today. It was apparent that he wasn't interested in Bradley and was ready to choose between a couple "higher" level programs.

I think it is very likely that Bradley's team for 2008-2009 is set.

Despite some 'flirtations' with BU, did anyone really think he was going to opt for BU when coming from a Big 10 program like Indiana? I didn't. Oh well. I was pretty happy with our returning nucleus before the addition of Norris, departure of Cole-Scott, addition of Brown, and departure of Austin. I feel the same way now.

No but you just hope and think just maybe.....but you are correct. He was at IU....dropping down to BU just isn't a reality even if it means a starting role and the chance to be BMOC, stick out like a sore thumb and get looks from NBA scouts.

Go get lost in the shuffle at AUburn and take your chances. Thats sounds bitter but its not. I think of a guy like Hawk. While he could have been good just about ANYWHERE IMO he was BEYOND good at BU getting to start for 4 years and well...the rest is history.

god forbid a top class player come to the MVC and become an instant phenomenon. But that would mean more than one year of school....OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to BM.

Hey... could you just hear the questions/comments from people like KW? I mean c'mon... IU was dirty with KS and landed him... and then he winds up at Bradley. Yikes.

Would he have become an instant phenom? The MVC might not be the best conference, but it's a lot closer to the Big 10 than some think. I don't think he'd been an instant phenom at BU. We've got a pretty deep and experienced team returning.

The fact that you have to refer to a guy like Hawk speaks for itself. If these guys are good enough to get to the NBA they will regardless of where they play. China, Europe, Africa, D1, 2 or 3 it doesnt matter. The idea that a player has a better chance to get to the NBA by playing against lesser competition doesnt make much sense to me. Why wouldnt you want to play against the best competition possible? Plenty of guys have excelled even stared in the MVC and never made the league.

Well I thought it was a long shot. However I do believe it would have made perfect sense for him. Close to home, possible early playing time for him after getting none a IU, Solid young players to go with him, Smaller classes to help get him personal attention when he had problems with grades at IU apparently.

Seemed to work out pretty well for Larry Bird....but I guess you just can't make it to the big time from the MVC

You also have to remeber Crean kicked him out of IU, he did not leave on his own accord. I wonder if he would even have qualified to get into BU. I'm not to suprised that he would go to a bigger school where he can get through their academic requirements. As a poster said earlier, I'd rather have players that are not just good players but solid citizens. As much as an upside he is as a ball player there are plenty of questions mark in other areas. Anyway I wish him luck and a school like BU probably would have been better for him all around.

What?

I'm lost.

An IU/B10 transfer goes to an SEC school over an MVC school.

And that is relevant to Squeaky?

I really don't know, so please tell me.

Hawk and Larry Bird have been mentioned in this thread as players who played in the MVC and went on to the NBA, I thought I would add Squeaky. I mean he was the first pick in the draft, do you think the staff uses that as a selling point?

Ok. I guess I follow you. But still scratching my head. Squeaky didn't play in the NBA - right?

So the staff would sell the point (involving Squeaky) that... what?

Not even close to a long shot. I think he was listing BU and others just to draw attention to himself. Like BradleyBrave said, did anyone really think he was coming down after a year in the Big 10. As for his grades, if he couldn't get a passing grade in the Sampson system what makes you think that BU could sit this guy down and get him to study. I don't care how much 1 on 1 some guys get, they either don't care or they just can't cut it.
I think BU will be much better off without him.

Great post OoB.

And I just wanna say, I don't want Bradley getting B10 rejects.

Players wanting out of a B10 school to play for Bradley is one thing... Bradley getting players cause they couldn't cut it because of grades (and/or on the court) becoming a "reject".... oh boy... not sure how good they would be for Bradley.

Very well said.....just becuase he went to IU does that automatically put him "above" anything we have here? I wanted him because he was a big with some size.....

Would HAwk have averaged over 30 ppg lets say had he gone to Indiana or Kansas. I really think Hawk was good and would have made it from anywhere but he REALLY stuck out at BU in the MVC. It helped push him to a lotto pick.

THe thing that helped Hawk the most IMO though was his "pro" coach his final year or two. He ran a pro turnout for him and .....well we all saw what it did.
