MVC TV Package Released

Looks like 5 games if I caught them all. Only problem is Comcast dropped ESPNU on us right (at least in the Peoria area)?

Peoria, Bloomington, and Springfield all no longer have ESPNU... (or any other place that switched from Insight to Comcast.

Comcast does not have a contract with ESPNU.

Hey Fish - I still get the U via Mediacom. Plus I have the coldest beer in my County.

Yes, the games will be broadcast on the Comcast cable network, just like last year. They are planning on doing about 12 games, most of the road games. They will not do the game at Florida, but will cover the 3 games on Nov. 24, 25, 26 against UMKC, FGCU, and Richmond.

The Comcast network will broadcast the Bradley games over most of the area they cover, including much of Iowa, northern Illinois, and Indiana. They will be available in the Chicago area, which could really help Bradley recruiting in years to come.

Frank Bussone will do the play-by-play, and they haven't announced the color broadcaster yet. It will not be Chuck Buescher this year, because he will be part of the radio team. The color guy for TV should be announced soon, and Bradley fans will be pleased.

Da Coach,
Help me out! Last year, as you, I could not get The local broadcast as I have Direct TV.
However, I believe Direct TV bought Comcast?
If this is true, do you know what Direct TV channel will carry the Bradley game feed?

I do not know that answer. If I can find out, I'll post it. If anyone else knows, let us hear from you. Or maybe you could call Direct TV and find out?

Any idea on why they didn't/couldn't get the Florida game? That one seems like it would be a huge TV draw

Yes, ESPNU owns the rights to that game and Comcast wasn't going to get it easily. Plus the cost of travel, renting an upload truck, etc for that one game was very expensive. They decided they would do either the 11/16 game at Florida or the 3 games 11/24, 11/25, and 11/26 in the FGCU arena, but not both trips. After consulting a lot of people, including some of the fans (I was asked), they decided on the 3 games in 3 days 11/24-11/26.
Also, note that the 11/16 game at Florida is a Sunday, 1:00 pm afternoon game. The audience for that game, especially the viewing audience outside of Peoria, would be very small because of the day and time, and competetion with NFL football. I suspect there just wasn't any way to get enough advertisers to make it possible.

I noticed that the 1/10 Creighton-BU game is being televised by WLVP. Is that a local broadcast of some sort? Also, does anyone know if WLVP shoots its signal up to a satellite so that it can be "pulled down" in other areas? I'd like a chance to see that game...

DoubleJayAlum-
Where do you see anything about the January 10, CU at BU game?
I don't see that one listed anywhere in that MVC press release about TV games.
Here is a listing of all MVC games, and it looks like that game is not scheduled to be televised by anyone--

And where did you see anything about WLVP? It's not mentioned anywhere in any article I've seen.
And I have never heard of WLVP! It is certainly not a Peoria TV station.
In fact, a google search shows the only WLVP is an AM radio station in Portland, Maine.

Peoria does have a TV station WTVP, and they have broadcast occasional games in past years, but there has been no news about them doing games this year.

For those with Comcast, I went to their website and used this feature called "E-mail Rick." You go to customers > contact us > and then click on e-mail Rick down the bottom. Anyway, I sent something basically asking them to add Comcast and actually got a call back and a promise that they'll forward it to the marketing department.

Maybe if enough of us pester them they'll actually try to add ESPNU.

Maybe DoubleJay saw what I found. If you look at the media guide covers it lists the schedule and whether or not the games are on TV. The January 10 game against CU is listed as being on WTVP. Also, the January 13th game against Indiana St. is listed as being on FSN, even though the press release from the conference does not mention this game.

Perhaps the university knows something we don't, or maybe it is an error with the media guide.

Now I see what you and he were referring to. It does list WTVP as televising that game. And the small WTVP logo actually does look more like it says wlvp. It's on page 3 of this site--

Good detective work DoubleJayAlum and RedSoxDSM.
WTVP did televise one home game last year (12/29/07 against UNI), and I had heard they might pick up one of the home games this year. So that January 10 game against Creighton must be televised by WTVP. I am not aware that any official announcement has been made, and I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere else.
And WTVP does use a satellite uplink truck for their broadcasts, so it's possible you could find it on a satellite.

Yeah, I saw it on the media guide picture.

And after double checking, it still looks like wlvp, instead of wtvp, to me. :D

Our local cable company (Cox) has picked up and aired satellite feeds for other Creighton games from other local affiliates in the past (I remember games against Drexel and WSU in particular). I was wondering if this was a possibility that should be pointed out to them...
