Next Up Michigan State - Winnable?

DC and SS will get eaten up a lot faster than TB would . TB is averaging more rebounds per 40 mins played than any other player on the team besides TW. More than WE, more than DC and more than SS. PLus TB usually plays more on the outside. Think about what he could do if he was in postion more of the time playing that 5 position. I just think SS and DC arent even close to bein athletic and fast enough to play with Mich St. AT might be athletic and fast enough but he cant get on the floor for some reason. I think we need to pull out all the weapons on this one and try as many combos that we can to try and catch Mich St off ballance. That will be our only chance to stay in this game.

No offense to him, but a stiff could average more rebounds than Collins...

He's out of his position more than Allen Iverson is out of practice...

Without Will, we have little chance inside against the Spartans...

Taylor Brown will do ok, but he's just too small for their bigs...

At this point, we'd have to have the game of our lives from our guards and MANY 3-pt field goals to win this game...

haha at this point I don't care...put TB in and don't call what he's doing "the 5"

have no one inside all game on offense and just have a 5 on 4 situation no closer than 12 feet to the basket...of course yes we'd have to shoot well

but back to reality lets just come to grips here people...DC will be our starting center against MSU and for the rest of the season....take it in now so it doesn't hurt so much later

The sad part would be having that be the reality with no other real option...

At this point, I would take my chances w/ a combination of Sam Singh, Taylor Brown, and Anthony Thompson than see another minute of #4 on the court....

Did everyone notice that we went from 23 up to 13 up in a matter of a couple minutes w/ him on the floor last night?

You betcha ;) (this was also when Maniscalco was on the bench, FYI).

Fortunately, it doesn't take a team full of "bigs" to compete for the top half of the Valley. I am confident that Les will be able to put an athletic, scrappy, scrambling defense-type team on the floor during Valley play and have the surprise team of the year (of course shooting the 3 like we did against ETSU will be needed as well). I really like the stroke that Norris has from behind the 3 -- very fluid stroke. :)

I know you're no fan of Maniscalco StLB, but keeping him healthy and on the floor is critical to BU's success this year, IMO

yes I made a note of it DURING the game last night on the Will Egolf thread I believe...i can't remember

I was definitely disheartened and I'm not sure if that mild comeback was due to DC being in or if it was because the team didn't have their heart in the game anymore...or a mixture of both...but one thing is for certain some magic needs to happen for this season to be a successful one...

goodbye MVC championship haha

Yes. The 3-headed center monster needs to be SS-TB-AT. The goal of this season is now to develop the current roster in hopes of being healthy (what a thought) and making a real run at the title and NCAA's next year. Who knows, by year's end we could get some nice surprises.

Not necessarily true...I did keep saying when the lead kept shrinking that we needed to do two things...get Collins out, and get Sammy back in....even though I don't like his defensive prowess at times and he does still tend to take some bad shots, Sammy brings stability to the team and I have now realized this...So Sammy is definitely not seen in the same light as Collins is in my eyes...

My thoughts on Taylor Brown or Anthony Thompson being in...I would be playing stricly a 2-3 zone during their time in...It would cut down on AT being a focal point defensively and would allow Taylor the ability to not have his size exposed as much inside...plus, I think we are getting better and better each time at the zone...

That along w/ the rotation I mentioned would be the only way we would be able to compete w/ the Lawson's, Odiacosa's (sp?), and the Boyle's in the conference...

I agree 110%...

Collins isn't bringing much to the table this year and he won't be around next year so why not develop someone who will be?

Let the Freshmen get their feet wet and see if we can build something toward the future...

Think of where Creighton would be if they hadn't allowed Lawson some time last year...

We have no future next year w/ Collins playing now, and honestly, we have no future w/ him starting next week!

Let the kids play...

Win or lose, I think this game will benefit us. We will probably get blown out, but this will be the best team we play all year, and it will help our guys get accustomed to top level competition. I played baseball at BU back in the 90s and we played UCLA when Utley was there, and got swept, but it gave us a good frame of reference of top level competition and helped us the rest of the year

If the Michigan State team that shows up looks anything like the athletic freaks I saw play against OkSt the other day, look out and don't get hurt in the process. But if the MSU team that scored in the low to mid 60's vs Wichita and Maryland shows up then we have a chance with some lights out shooting.

Hopefully, either DC gets fired up or AT is closer than we think (just like WE a few days ago) and sitting the bench because of conditioning rather than effectiveness.

But I'm telling you that team that showed up vs OkSt looked like a legit top 5 team. And as good as Theron is, I don't see how he can shut down Morgan all day. Taylor Brown is going to have to play him tough as well.

We do see them just a few days after playing UNC in Detroit so maybe it's a let down game after a huge win or close heartbreaker.

If I remember right Norris and McCain were playing during that stretch as well.

yes they did, however McCain and Norris both contributed during this time w/ assists and points and even defense to an extent, which is more than I can say for the guy who only got points because a guy bumped into him on a steal attempt.

Please, try not to argue on his behalf...it just makes it seem more illogical when someone does.

The reason TB is doing what he is doing is because he is NOT playing the 5. He would be invisible at the 5 IMO.

Agree... I dont see TB at the 5... I want the freshmen to play, but like it or or not, the rotation should be SS starting, DC, and AT.

BTW, if anyone noticed, Michigan State outrebounded one of the top rebounding teams in our conference by 17...

1 other thing I noticed...they only shot 12 3's and only made 3 for 25%....

We need to hit the 2-3 zone and play it until they make a few...they've only made 24 3-pt field goals for the season w/ Summers and Thornton greatly inflating the team averages of the poor shooting of the others...

I don't know if we win this game even if our team is 100% healthy. But let's see if MSU can beat UNC. Then maybe they have that letdown game against us! :D

I don't anyone on this board is defending DC's play. But I do think it's unfair to blame only him for what happened after Will was injured. One positive thing I will say, is that maybe he's been giving free throw lessons, as our ft percentage has been better the last 3 games and he has been a good ft shooter.

I marked it down when WE went out. They went on a 20-7 run just before we made 2 FT's and stopped the bleeding.

I tend to feel that the whole team was a little in shock at the loss of WE so suddenly. That combined with ETSU's lack of conscience & nothing to lose by chucking it up attitude had as much to do with their run. As I recall it Pegram was chucking it up like crazy and DC wasn't guarding him. I concede that DC was ineffective at the 5 during their run, but to place the whole blame on him for that mini-run is absolutely ridiculous. Another fact is that BU let little or no air out of the ball on the offensive side and continued to attack with one shot and out instead of working the shot clock a bit.

You have to accept DC for what he is, not what you want him to be. He's a slightly more athletic Brandon Heemskerk, but apparently without the drive to become better. This team's offense was more one on one based and put your head down & drive which really exposed his lack of lateral quickness. There is no excuse for the fact that he keeps his hands at his side defensively though. DC will do a serviceable job against similar slower bigs, but big guys with any quickness will expose him immediately. I trust JL will pick the right people to play in the right situations.

I don't know why all the concern about DC starting or getting more minutes because of WE's injury. As foul-prone as he is, his minutes will be limited anyway.
