Carlton Fay - Not That Impressive...

I've seen Fay probably play 50 times in high school and college combined and I've seen Prosser even more.

Fay is stronger than Prosser and a much better three-point shooter. As far as post moves go, they both have a solid arsenal. What I like better about Prosser is that he is quicker on his feet and a lot more mobile. He runs the floor very well. He has the ability to knock down the three if given some room and he's a very good rebounder. I'd much rather have Prosser though I love Fay's game.

Good assessment..thanks. I like Fay also. Didn't look good against us but what Saluki did. Who knows why. Looking forward to Prosser.

I am not one of these guys who is a Peoria Area homer or anything like that. I couldn't care less where a kid comes from. That being said, I think BU could really use Fay this year. Even if he's only backing up TW he would provide very quality minutes off the bench. I'm not sure if we would have had WE had we gotten Fay, it seems they have similar games. So maybe he'd be playing the 5 right now, I don't know. I have a feeling though the next couple years I will be very frustrated with Fay and will hate him in the same way I despised Nate Funk. In the I hate you so much, I hope you get run off your team and everyone at your school cannot stand you any more... So you transfer to BU, sort of way.

I like Fay's game but I believe he has become one dimensional on the offensive end. TW was guarding him for most of the game and TW is a lot quicker, so instead of relying on his perimeter game where TW has the advantage he should have posted him up. I bet that SIU next game against us will try to go inside a lot more. I'm not sure why that adjustment was not made before the 1/2.

So Fay is going to be at SIU for 7 years???

I think Cole has a couple of issues that has led to him not playing a whole lot so far. Obviously he has some strength issues, and you're right that he didn't show a lot of desire to bang down low in high school, and stayed on the perimeter(out of the paint anyway) quite a bit. So, I think he's behind on back to the basket play, because he didn't really develope that in high school. So this is why he hasn't put himself in position to get some PT in the post. (at the 4 or 5) Especially in the B10.

Now, Cole has got some shooting skills, but the reason he can't play the perimeter(say the 3) IMO, is his lack of lateral quickness and ability to defend other players at that position. I remember a couple of years ago when Richwoods played Pekin at the Field House(anyone remember that place;)) Pekin spread Richwoods out, and gave the ball to whoever Cole was guarding, and that player just blew right by him to create their offense, whether it was lay-up, or drive and dish, or drive and kick to beat the defense because they had to rotate to help Cole out. He was beat repeatedly in that game off the dribble, and I remember thinking that he will really have to improve on either his strength or perimeter D, because at that point he wasn't equipped to play either in the post or on the perimeter at the D1 level. It appears he is still struggling with both.

I hope BIll gets it figured out and becomes a successful player at Illinois, as we have seen other guys really contribute after struggling early in their careers. (JJ) comes to mind.

My thoughts exactly. Cole is neither skilled or strong enough to play in the post, especially at the Big Ten, probably the most physical conference in terms of post players. He does not have (nor do I ever think he will have) enough lateral quickness to even defend the perimeter in the Big Ten or any level of college basketball period (including D2, NAIA, etc.) The only way I could see him getting minutes for the Illini is if they get an offensive four man that can guard the perimeter in which they can switch Bill Cole defensively. Even then, with his lack of strength, I don't think he'll be able to compete. I am one who was NEVER impressed with Cole throughout his entire high school career.

what?? Fay is a sophomore, only a dozen games into his second season.
In Fay's first 45 games on his college career, all the kid has done is...
--provide a reliable player and reliable starter for the Salukis.
He hasn 't missed single minute of action due to injury or grades.
--he is presently SIU's leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder.
He also leads them in minutes played, FT's made and has FT% of 88%!!
--He already has more career points just 1/3 way through his sophomore season than any post player on Bradley's roster has.
--his numbers if he were on BU's roster, would make him 2nd leading scorer and 2nd leading rebounder.

The kid is good and I know Jim Les pursued him hard and wanted him.

I think your words about Fay will come back to haunt you.........
tornado, i agree with you 100%. I really like Fay. Great body for this league. His coach just needs to get him to understand where he helps his team the most and that is inside most of the time and on occasion go out and hit that 3. Wish he was here Jl would have him inside and we'd love his game.

The only thing I would say is that Fay had enough game to put a high school team with little other talent on his shoulders and get them to the state tournament. They wn something like 30 games his senior year. Prosser's team is 6-5 right now.

They were both sophmores at the time. His brother Kevin Fay was the 6th man and Anthony Ahlers ended the season with Mono

Carlton Fay averaged 23.6 ppg and 12.0 rpg his senior year, but from the games I saw, he did not get as much double and triple teaming as Jordan Prosser has been getting this year, because that Putnam County team did have other guys who could score and rebound.

Nonetheless, Jordan's numbers so far this season are comparable to Carlton's senior averages. I have seen both, and they are very similar caliber players, and in the end they will both have similarly successful college careers.

Eureka is 6-4.

On that 2006-2007 Putnam County team-
Anthony Ahlers averaged 9.9 ppg and 7 rpg, David Seibert averaged 9.2 ppg, Joe Brizgis averaged 8.3 ppg, and Kevin Fay averaged 6 ppg.
Ahlers played in the same number of games that season as Carlton Fay played.

Also, it's silly to compare records. That is not a valid measure of one player's talents.
