Postgame thread- BU 60 Wichita State 58

Quite a few Wichita State fans on the board are complianing that they didn't get the foul called on David Collins on the inbound play with 0.9 seconds left. Apparently Marshall was upset they didn't get the call, too.

Too bad. That's really a weak call if they make it.

A weak call, but a call they could have made and BU couldn't really have argued it. Especially after ALL the coaches WARNED DC IN THE HUDDLE to look out for the screen according to JL on the post game show. I think we were pretty lucky to have that go as a "no call" on the road.

Having only the Radio to go by. Dave Snell thought it was a foul. He said it would be called 80 to 90% of the time. Buescher thought it was technically a foul but would have been a horrible call if they made it.

Looked like a pretty obvious flop to me, and I think the ref thought so.

If he did flop then you are right....I dispise Floppers! (see Vandergaurd from ISU)

I give WSU credit..they set the play up and ran it to perfection....it's also one of the oldest plays/tricks in the book!

I watched it online and it was awesome!! Some pretty good defensive plays and decent offensive execution when we needed it. And the last play was perfect - the guard goes to the rim, draws out the shotblockers, and leaves Singh there for the offensive rebound and putback. Talk about a hostile crowd!! That was like a Big Ten game. Great win, not pretty, but being 2-0 is awesome.

It was a 'HS prank' play. It was a desperation move. Actually DC should have been put on the free throw line for two shots because he was the one that was fouled. The refs did a good job.

I agree, I'd have to see the game tape, as I recall one palming call and a couple bad passes against the press,
otherwise he almost single-handedly help BU counter the press with his ball-handling skills and quickness.

Here is the PJ Star coverage -- BU is 2-0 in the MVC for the first time in 13 years!!!!!!!!!!!!! (13 exclamation marks)

Here's an idea...John Searby....
the first 10000 fans get a free, plastic, Sam Singh face mask!!!
The place would be packed--

There is only one magic mask and jl has it safely locked away...

Disagree DC, We were very lucky it wasn't called. If that happens in the first minute of the game and its called no one would say anything, but do to where we were in the game the refs just swallowed there whistle. IT should have been called and if it happened earlier in the game it should have been called. The rule book doesn't dictate when in the game to use a rule. They should be inforced for 40 minutes. We got a hugh break on the road now lets go to MSU and take care of business.

We got a break on the no call, but they were not being called for a lot of fouls that they were committing in the 2nd half.

That seems to be one of the most raucous places to play in the Valley. Very tough to come out with a win there, so this was definately a great win for us!

-So did anyone hear what was up with Darian Norris in the postgame show? Could have used his perimeter shooting at times?

-93% FT shooting, what the heck? Go from worst ever to probably the best FT shooting team in the valley. Probably won't shoot that good every game but 93% on the road is out of this world.

-Got the win, but I think BU ran the offense way to long in the 2nd half. Most times the ball was beyond the arc with 6 or 7 seconds on the shot clock. Then they forced it down low and committed multiple turnovers.

-It wasn't mentioned on the TV broadcast but Theron and some dude from WSU got a technical late in the 2nd half in a very brief heated exchange of words.

-Overall great game, first time in 13 yrs BU goes to 2-0 in the valley and first time in 40 yrs that BU has won 2 straight in Wichita.

Do not discredit this win whatsoever. UMKC may have won there, but there will be several MVC teams that lose at the Roundhouse. BU overcame just about everything and gutted out a win. I am trying not to over-hyperbolize this game, but its hard to win there or anywhere on the road in conference. I'm not sure we're that much more talented than WSU (because we're injured), and Marshall's resume says they're better coached. But I am not sure tonight. You don't win this game without some good players and some coaching, which is something we (myself included) harp on all the time. We outrebounded the best rebounding team in the league...and that last one is why we're 2-0 for the first time in JL's tenure. Credit the players...and credit the COACHES. Sometimes it's hard for us to do, but they deserve it!

Hey...who wants to get greedy and really make things interesting? I do!

Agreed, the coaches did a good job scouting Wichita, and preparing the team and the game plan. Bradley exploited the inside and outrebounded the team that has been, by far, the best rebounding team in the MVC. They also held their quick, good-shooting guards, Hannah and Chamberlain, in check.

Here are a few things that happened due to game-prep and good coaching-
Point guard Clevin Hannah was their leading scorer and assist leader, and Hannah and Reggie Chamberlain were the best 3-point shooters on their team.
But they were a combined 1-7 from the field, and had a total of 1 rebound, 3 assists, and 4 turnovers between them. BU played great perimeter defense against them.
And Ramon Clemente was averaging 9 rebounds per game and had 5 double-digit rebound games. Last night, Bradley kept a body on him on every shot. He had just 5 rebounds last night and was frustrated.

It happened so fast I'm not even sure the guy was fully set. Think how Marshall would have felt had they called it a block!

The NCAA has a "point of emphasis" on carrying the ball, and I am sure glad they are working to clean up this important problem in the college game. :)

I would like to see the NCAA make a "point of emphasis" on not calling "gotcha" fouls like that on players trying to sneak into the path of an opposing player, then flop onto their back like they were hit by a tank. Officials usually aren't looking for it, so when they see it out of the corner of their eyes, they get fooled and call the foul. It detracts from the game, and is ridiculous.

Unfortunately, I couldn't catch the game. I hope the website uploads it soon to watch.

Just looking at the numbers, it seemed like we had a very impressive game on the road. Free-throw shooting continues to be excellent. I'm happy Theron is back on his game. And Singh can't deny the power of his mask any longer!

Definitely, our out-rebounding them is the most surprising stat to me. Great job on that.
