Postgame thread- Bradley 65 WSU 50

No doubt some of the calls were bad......but it was a pretty fairly called game. It just seems that JL does more talking(or yelling) directly to the refs right at them when they are coming down the floor. From my viewpoint I see both coaches equally since we sit behind scorer's table a three rows up.
Many of the coaches are a little more discreet when complaining to the refs than JL.
Something about Marshall just bugs me......seems like a ying-yang to me...

I am curious how coaches in the league act at home and on the road... everywhere for all the coaches.

We see Coach Les working the Refs at home. Also at home, we see opponents in a tough arena to win in... and the coaches don't go "all out".

Maybe we live in a box and only see what we see.

Whenever I hear Coach Les riding the Refs he is trying to say something about the rules (and violations of rules). He will sometimes say things like "call it both ways" - or "what's he supposed to" (he held his position and put his hands up) . He might say things like "that was a bad call" but that is almost always followed by his explanation of his understanding of the rules. So it looks like he is jarring hard, but he is just trying to be heard (and discuss/challenge the interpretation of the rule).

Anyway, I think it would be neat to hit all the venues and observe behaviors of coaches. Unfortunately - that isn't in my budget for time or money. ;-)

I wish the students would start coming out to the games. There have been more open seats this season than I remember since the tourney run. From what I see, very few freshmen come to the games now, whereas that was the big thing my freshman year (the season after S16). The Indiana State game had a big student turnout, but tonight it was more like a break game than some of the turnouts we had in the past.

Come on students!!

Do they still have to wait for busses to get down there? It's been pretty cold this month. Then again, today felt much "warmer" than it has been.

There were a couple big things on campus tonight. There was a "pageant" put on by one of the sororities, which is where almost all of the fraternity members were. My fraternity which usually has between 15 and 20 there had only 3.

All is well. I didn't have to worry about the prospect of a broken TV set after this game and that is how I am going to constitute a well officiated game from now on. Yeah, it wasn't a game that would be decided in the final minute but i thought it was called well.

That's a good point. I don't know, but during my freshman year, there was never a shortage of buses, and the wait between them was max 5 minutes.

Sammy got away with a HUGE technical in the second that somehow the refs missed.

Yeah he did that was intense. He got really angry starting yelling at the ref the guy came back up to him and he just SHOVED him...hard. The guy fell over and I looked at the ref closest to it instantly and NOTHING HAPPENED! I was shocked. Then Sammy ran right at him and I thought we'd have our own "stepping on the face" incident, but then he just jumped over him...it was intense.

Then the next play DD falls on his face SM helps him up and slaps him...I started laughing.

Haha. That push by SM was so OBV my mom even txted me from my parents season seats actually using the word "technical foul." That's a big step into college basketball passion for my mom.

About the students.

I have lived in Peoria all my life and have been going to games forever.
I sometimes seem to overlook that fellow students, who are not from the area, aren't as die-hard as myself. I'll be on my dorm floor and be like who is going to the huge game tomorrow....I get the response "Oh, is Bradley playing WHO ARE THEY PLAYING?" I'm like come on! You dont know!?? Then there are the people who claim they are huge fans but then don't even know a game is on that night.

Then friends who go to some games and act like fans.....then proceed to say "I don't feel like going, I'll just watch some of it on TV.

I think it must take a few years for out of area students to become avid supporters who live and die for BU basketball.

I was disappointed when i got to the game tonight.

No one works the refs like Lowery at SIU...no one

Did anyone notice that about 10 mins into the 2nd half we had 3 freshman on the court in the heat of the game....I hope this bolds well for the future...TB-DN and EM should be playing like sophomores by tourney time with the early game experience! Plus on 3 to's in the 2nd half!

Actually, its interesting you say this because our best + scoring difference and defensive portion of the game was when we went small going w/ Taylor, Theron, Dodie, Sammy, and Darian....

We just seem to play a better flowing game when we sit David and Sam and go smaller...not to take anything away from them, but they both slow us down. If we could find a big that can run the floor, look out.

I agree that JL gets on the refs...but very rarely is it truly unwarranted....my son and I were the best seats in the house move and from our vantage point TW got hammered on a rebound and put back and nothing was called then we go down on D and get called for a foul....JL was only telling the guy to call it the same on the other end. I have no problem with that...if the ref is so sensitive to that...then he shouldn't be calling the game.

BTW...sat right next to the WSU bench and Marshall complained about almost every BU stop on D. He seemed to think there was a foul on every play. In the first half he complained about a missed 3 second call for 5 minutes and even pulled a ref over during a ft situation to continue to complain about it. The ref said to him "Hey, I am reffing the game" and Marshall said "Well, you are not doing a very good job of it then"!

That was you? I would have been nicer hahaha.

I thought the refs were pretty good tonight. And Marshall was all over the refs more then I see Les being over them. Though I was afraid a T was coming right before halftime.

I was very disappointed with the size of the student section tonight, though I thought the people who were there did a good job.

we do our share of grabbing getting through screens. WSU didn't do as much as other teams IMO.

I though JL and the black=haired ref was going to get into it right before the half. Good thing halftime was close or something was going to happen.
Personally I think JL gets out of line with the refs. He's on the refs more than any coach in the league it seems.

I also sit near the visitors' bench, and Marshall expends all his energy from start to finish working the refs. He does it much more than Jim Les does.

And according to the Dave Reynolds column, Gregg Marshall even made a big deal of the Chris Roberts end-of-game shot in his post-game press conference.

Come on, grow up Coach Marshall. It's not the same as running a play for a lob-dunk at the buzzer in a blowout like Creighton did against them earlier in the season. If he can't see that this was not an organized action by the coaches and team he's irrational. It was one kid launching a 25 footer at the urging of the crowd.

Not much else to say that hasn't been said. Defense is great and will keep us in any game. I'm very happy with how our freshmen are developing and are getting good PT too.

I like the 1st article...he says Peoria is his favorite Valley stop and looks forward to coming here and eating pizza @ hoops...also make sure to scroll down to where he interviews Dave Reynolds about the Braves.....DR has done 569 straight Braves games..:D
