Next year's starting lineup

Southside

New member
I know it's early, but what do you think next year's starting lineup will be? Who will be the 1st players off the bench?

I'm not sure it's likely but--

1 - EM
2 - AW
3 - CR
4 - TB
5 - WE

Top guys off the bench, SM getting huge minutes at 1 and 2 slots, DD at 2 and 3 (maybe 1 sometimes) JP with lots of minutes at 4, and SS playing good minutes at the 5.

Was just thinking about this...

1- EM, SM, (DD/DN rarely)
2- SM, DD, DN
3- AW, CR
4- TB, MK, JP
5- SS, WE, JP, AT

Of course so much can change... if TB doesn't become more "Theron-like" over the summer, it'll likely either push CR in there or something flips around with Dodie, too. Also, if WE is back to full-speed and does well over the summer, he could start over SS.

That also banks on playing a similar style to what we're doing now. A little different version if looking to always go to a bigger lineup might be (I don't think we'll see much of this, if at all, but interesting nonetheless):

1- SM, EM
2- DD, CR, DN
3- AW, CR, TB
4- WE, MK, JP, TB
5- SS, AT, WE, JP

This year there was a reason to have SM and EM on the floor at the same time. Next year there should be no reason for that barring extenuating circumstances. Sam Maniscalco is and will be our point guard. His desire to win is unmatched except by TW. He will have a whole off season to improve what he thinks needs to be improved on...and him and the staff really know now because it has been two seasons for him. He will improve on his shooting I believe and on his defense. This will make him a much better option on offense then EM and he turns the ball over the same if not less than EM. He will be our point guard...consistency is what we need from that spot and that is what he has. Hopefully AW will be a two but you never know with DD coming in at the 3 (or switch those two around). I don't see TB cracking the starting line up next season unless he puts on some muscle and gets better with his mid-range jumper and can actually take the ball to the hoop without getting so easily pushed around therefore I think CR or AT or a freshmen takes that spot depending on how they develop.

Will Egolf will be back and ready to go!!! BOOK IT.

EM,SM,AW,WE,SS

or

SM,CR,AW,TB,WE

Wouldn't be surprised if Dodie is substituted on one of these. Also, I put WE on both but it may be a while before he works into the lineup. Also I am not expecting him to be a star, just decent.

Barring injury...

PG- SM
SG- AW
OG- CR
SF- TB
PF- WE

We could practically use 2 lines next year considering our depth...

PG- EM
SG- DN
OG- DD
PF- JP
C- SS

And we still would need to find a way to fit MK and AT in somewhere.

SM
AW
CR
TB
WE

off the bench is Dodie for Warren and Roberts, McCain for Mansicalco, Prosser for Brown and Singh for Egolf.

I love the following,
SM
DD
AW
TB
WE
But expect EM and CR to get 20+ mpg and JP and SS to get 15mpg. Hard to find enough minutes for everybody.

SM
AW
CR
TB
WE

Seems to be the best bet for a realistic lineup with decent size, athleticism and scoring ability.. Although I'll doubt WE is starter on day 1 as he completes recovery

EM
AW
CR
TB
SS

IMO, SM will be the first guard off the bench. If JL has SS,WE and JP at the
5 position, I would like to see AT learning to play the 4 this summer. Having
AW and CR playing the 3 and 4 positions may make good match up's against
certain teams but we will have the height next year and will need it against
some of our non-conf opponents if we are to compete with them.

Honest question: should WE still be recovering almost an entire year after his injury?

Yes no, depends on how his body reacts, and how he mentally recovers. It usually takes an average person who is somewhat athletic around 1.5 years to get back to where they were but WE is no mere mortal.

If the WE can shoot rumors are true here's what I would do - even though I know it won't happen:

SM
AW
CR
WE
SS

I would have Dodie as energy 1st off the bench to get in someones face that starts hot. TB, EM, DN, JP, MK in order of minutes off the bench.

Here's what is more likely:

SM
AW
CR
TB
WE

Dodie still first off the bench. I really like him as the 6th man even though he definitely has the talent to start. With SS, EM, DN, JP, MK filling in. I think the biggest question mark we have is the 4 spot. TB provides great energy and production (especially on the boards) given his limited minutes. He looked really good at time in the game vs. UNI Saturday but Koch could easily back him down to the hoop. If he can improve his defense around the block and not get pushed around by bigger guys, I don't think the question mark at the 4 remains. I, too, would love to see AT play some 4 over the summer and see what he can provide as an extra tall "tweener." I don't see anyone else having as good and deep of guard play as us.
