Kevin Dillard, SIU's leading scorer, sprained his ankle a couple games ago, sat out SIU's last home game against Creighton, and played only 4 minutes against Wichita State in the final game, before re-spraining the ankle.

According to Chris Lowery in a press conference today, Kevin Dillard is practicing, but his status for the tournament is uncertain-

Q: "What is the status of Kevin's (Dillard) ankle?"
"We don't know yet. He's going to practice today. We thought he was going to be able to give us more in the game, but he couldn't, so we didn't try him any more."

Many SIU fans were ripping Lowery for playing Dillard in a meaningless game for SIU at Wichita Saturday.

Why can't Coach Lowery tell us the "TRUTH"? Will the Drive-by Media take Coach Lowery to task over his basically "no comment" leaving an opponent clueless over the status of a player?

C'mon Wessler! We have SIU fans in Peoria - ask the tuff questions! Get the answers! Shed the "TRUTH" for us!

How is this in any way Wessler's responsibility? He's a columnist. If anything, shouldn't it be Dave Reynold's job as a beat writer? Either way, how this is the drive by media giving SIU a pass is a stretch. Especially the Peoria paper, where SIU is at best the 4th most important college program it covers...

You have to visit here more often- it's an inside joke. Wessler ripped Jim Les in a column a couple years ago for not being open and forthright about Daniel Ruffin's sports hernia injury. Les reported him day-to-day (to not give BU's opponents any information about who would be playing), when in fact, they knew he might need surgery and was not likely to come back quickly. It is something all coaches do, but Wessler specificallly took Jim Les to task, calling him a liar.

I know it's always a hard decision as to when to bring a player back from injury...but...

this is very reminiscent of them (SIU bringin back Bryan Mullins and playing him hard near the end of the season last year, even playing 31 minutes in a meaningless game with Evansville, that then resulted in Mullins aggravating a season long injury and missing the rest of the season and Tournament...
and Creighton did the same thing a few years earlier with Josh Dotzler...pushing him to play while injured and costing the kid more than a full season as he aggravated his knee....

I think you mean Brian Mullins. Chris Mullin may have lead SIU to a national championship!

I was at the WSU vs SIU game. Dillard MAY have reinjured his ankle during the game(i didn't see it), but he was in pain even during warmups. During practice drills he was limping to get the ball and shooting set shots. I couldn't believe he was even playing. And when Hannah went around him for some easy buckets a couple of times and stole the ball from him with ease as he dribbled down the court you knew he wouldn't be in much longer. WSU's first 10 points were all on Dillard.

Guys let's not go here regarding Dillard. We played SM at CU and we all know he could have rested a bit! Imagine if SM would have really tweaked his ankle last Saturday?

That ankle has been tweaked all season. Yea - it was better at times, but I think it has been a nuisance or a hindrance all season.

I have heard this news circulating for a while.

In fact, I have heard the name of a coach that SIU already offered their job to. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Will Dillard leave SIU if Lowery leaves? Will he transfer to DePaul? Who else would leave?
Which assistants at DePaul will stay, and which SIU assistants would go with Lowery. The strongest rumor is that SIU assistant Lance Irwin would go with Lowery because of his connections to the Chicago AAU scene.

He will be motivated to win but if he is leaving for Depaul SIU could lose more then just Dillard , it is hard to tell how much it would hurt SIU"s program.

They can't go too far in the other direction, right now.

It's too bad, because they have a ton of talent. It looks like C-Lo is an excellent recruiter, and just not a very good coach.

Flip side of that is, how many will he lose if he stays here for another year? He has had 10 defections since taking over as coach and 8 in the last 3 years.....

I think SIU has a better chance of winning the MVC then Lowery becoming are (DePaul) next head coach. Ponsetto was not really interested in Lowery at all per my source. If he did well enough in the MVC and had SIU has a possible NCAA teams I would be singing a different tune. But no way does he make it to Lincoln Park next year. DePaul is thinking MUCH MUCH bigger than C-Lo. Good luck this weekend.
