"Bradley & Wichita State the two schools working hardest for 5-11 PG Anthony Cousin Butler Co. CC. He is a freshman 1 & done at Butler."

Sounds like he was from Alaska and then went to South Kent, CT. Now at Butler County Community College. I believe he played with ISU's Jackie Carmichael in CT...

It's reported that Bradley coach Jim Les was in Kansas on Thursday to watch Butler County Community College freshman Anthony Cousin. He is a 5'11" point guard and a qualifier out of Anchorage, Alaska, via South Kent Prep School, and would have 3 years of eligibility if he transferred to a 4-year school after this season. Cousin scored 27 points and had 6 assists in the game against Hutchinson County CC to lead his team to a 81-74 win. Butler is now 21-4, and 9-2 (1st place) in the Jayhawk Conference West.

For the season, Anthony Cousin is averaging 12.2 ppg, and 4.6 apg.
He is shooting 40.7% from three.
In high school, at South HS in Anchorage, AK, he was 1st team All-State his senior season in 2008, and he lead his team to the 2008 Alaska State Championship.

There is an uncomfirmed report that former Bradley recruit and juco combo guard Anthony Cousin has verbally committed to Illinois State.

The rumor I have heard is that the one scholarship that they have available, from Terry Johnson leaving, would go to Cousin. But ISU coaches want to keep this quiet for now, as they are continuing to recruit John Wilkins.

That doesn't surprise me, since there was a connection to Carmichael mentioned in the articles before. Sounds like a good get for ISU. But anything that keeps them from getting JW sounds even better to me!

Well sounds like a good fit for the birds. Maybe just a straight trade for Terry Johnson. It will be interesting how the Wilkins saga plays out.

We won't know if it's official until the ISU coaches decide to make it public. But from what I hear from my source, it sounds pretty solid.
Maybe my ISU source is a pretty reliable one after all.;-)

But it makes sense that the coaches might not want to publicize this verbal yet, since it is the last available scholarship they have. And if they have John Wilkins visiting this weekend, it might be a little tougher convincing him they really want him when they don't have a scholarship available.

As far as announcing their recruits before they know about it on Redbirdfan, that's happened a couple of times before. I announced Brandon Sampay's verbal 12 hours before anyone there had ever heard his name.

Here is more substantiation that Anthony Cousin has committed to ISU-
His Facebook wall- Note his comment from Wed. at 10:28 pm: "illinois state :) it was God's plan."

The Pantagraph is not reporting this verbal. Probably the ISU coaches do not want it reported publically yet, since it is their last scholarship.

my guess is they are expecting bobby hill's scholarship to come open as well, which would make room for wilkins (or whomever else)

Let's say they keep Bobby Hill, and land John Wilkins, and also they get Cousin, Kenyon Smith, and the rest of those guys expected back do indeed return..

Then ISU will have SIX junior college transfers (Hill, Hill, Lewis, JW, Cousin, Smith) and two more D-I transfers (Blue, Mishler) , and will have just gotten rid of Lloyd Phillips, Landon Shipley, Holloway, Sampay, Coates, Oguchi, and Odzic within the past year!!!

that's a grand total of EIGHT transfers on next year's roster, but a HUGE total of FIFTEEN transfers between the end of last year and the beginning of next year!!!!
That is assuming they don't land a couple more that we are yet to hear about
Practically an entire roster of transfers....so can there be any doubt...as to
who is Transfer U.??

Who cares?
They were better than us last year...they were better than us the year before...
So what is your point?

Actually, ER3... I found it interesting. Especially after people (see our local paper) were calling BU out for too many JUCO players (I think we had 3 at the time?)

Plus, as a BU fan, I enjoy any negative mention of isu. (That goes for basketball-related or otherwise...)

Finally, the commitment of Anthony Cousin of Butler Community College (Kansas) to Illinois State appears to be official- it is the headline artricle on JucoJunction.com (Rivals).-

"Anthony Cousin will play in the Missouri Valley Conference next season at Illinois State University. Anthony can really run a team well from the point guard position and e can score the ball when he has to," said Bargen.

Cousin will have three years to play for the Redbirds after being an academic qualifier coming out of South Kent School in Connecticut last season. Cousin played high school ball in Anchorage, AK where his father was in the military.

Cousin was a First Team All-Conference performer in the Jayhawk Conference this season along with 1st-Team All Region. Cousin averaged 12.2 ppg and 4.6 assists this season for the Grizzlies. Cousin received interest from UW-Milwaukee, San Diego, Bradley, Central Michigan and Appalachian State University before deciding on the Redbirds according to coach Bargen.
