Tip Of Iceberg

Tip Of Iceberg

We might reserve judgement till all facts are known. Sometimes when news emerges like this, they are only the tip of the iceberg.

Former Illinois State head coach Kevin Stallings had a pretty good run while at Vanderbilt, though he only made 1 NCAA tournament in his final 4 seasons there, and that was a one and done in the First Four round.
Now Stallings is in his 2nd season at Pitt. He took over a highly successful program that under Jamie Dixon had gone to the NCAA Tournament in 11 of the 13 years he coached there, and averaged over 25 wins per season.
In his first season at Pitt, Stallings went 16-17, and 4-14 in the ACC. It was the first losing season at Pitt since Ben Howland's first season in 1999-2000, and their worst conference record since their one year in the old Eastern Collegiate Basketball League (forerunner of the Atlantic-10) in 1976-77.
This season, he is 8-18 overall, and 0-13 in the ACC, with almost all of the losses being blowouts.

Today, Louisville emabrrassed Pitt at home by 34 points, and Louisville was missing their best player and top scorer!

What worries Pitt fans is that his 2018 recruiting class includes only a 2-star juco guard and a 3-star high school forward, and neither player ranks in the Top 200 national rankings. And he has no recruits committed in any future seasons beyond 2018.
Stallings has 4 more years on his initial 6-year contract he was given by Pitt. But the Pitt fans are so fed up with him that the administration is getting a lot of pressure to cut their losses and replace Stallings.
Stallings is a pretty good coach, and with time things should improve. But will the fans and administration give him more time?

Another head coach who is getting a lot of heat from their fans is new Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. He is not in any danger of losing his job, since this is his first season at Illinois. But Illinois won 20 games last year under Jon Groce, and they were 8-10 in the Big Ten. This season, Underwood is off to a miserable start with a record of 12-14, and after today's 22-point home drubbing by Penn State, they are just 2-11 in the Big Ten. With 5 Big Ten games left, Illinois could be looking at possibly their worst Big Ten record since they joined the Big Ten in 1917, and they worst record in any conference since 1907!
Underwood is not accumulating many fans among the Illini faithful, and things aren't looking like they will improve soon. Underwood has only one recruit committed for 2018 (point guard Ayo Dosunmu), and no commitments for any future years.
Unfortunately, point guard is about the only position they don't really need help with Da'Monte Williams, Mark Smith, Trent Frazier, and Te'jon Lucas. They sorely need shooters, wing players, and big men to compete in the Big Ten. They are near the bottom in most statistical categories in the Big Ten.

Pepperdine's Marty Wilson also will not return after the end of this season

Here's a great spot - an entry-level head coaching job at the juco level - that would be great for one of our guys like Willie Scott, maybe Dodie, Sammy or Tim Bankston...
https://twitter.com/HoopDirt/status/965651626550878217

Not really. Willie Scott was already the Head Coach at Malcolm X College back in 2008-09 and 2009-10 and he did a great job. Malcolm X was possibly the worst junior college basketball program in the country when Willie took over. They had not had a winning season in 16 years. Willie turned it around immediately and produced 2 winning seasons in a row. I have talked to Willie about his time there, and there is a reason that job is open now, and opens up every year or two. It is a terrible job. The school has little or no money, so the job pays almost nothing. Willie spent lots of his own money to build their basketball program, and to recruit kids. They didn't even have money to pay for assistants, or any other support staff. Maybe things have improved since the City built all new buildings and facilities, but probably not much.
Willie left in spring, 2010, and was hired by Bradley as an assistant.

Delaware State has fired head coach Keith Walker-

Mississippi Head Coach Andy Kennedy has had a change of mind, and has decided to step down immediately.

I haven??™t heard anything on whether any ole miss recruits are going to decommit but they received a verbal from a juco forward I personally liked. If Zach Naylor reopens his recruiting I??™d love to see coach try to bring him on board. He looks like a ready made replacement for Donte. Stats I found say he??™s putting up 20ppg with 9rpg while shooting 40 percent from three in 4 attempts a game.

Zach Naylor a 6'7" juco forward who averages 18 & 10. It is thought that he might decommit, but nothing has been announced yet. He will be one of the most sought after late recruits, though, and will probably have lots of offers if he does decommit.

funny you should say that...
because Bradley and Coach Wardle were very high on Zach Naylor!!

Some of their players are already discussing transfer - https://www.redcuprebellion.com/201...ndy-kennedy-resignation-breein-tyree-transfer
One guy they have is Dominik Olejniczak - who went to ole Miss from Drake but isn't getting much playing time there and is getting recruited over. Maybe he will ask back in at Drake?

Eastern Kentucky just fired Head Coach Dan McHale. He took over a 21 win team, and got worse each year. He was 11-20 this year in his 3rd season. He was 38-56 in 3 seasons.

Larry Eustachy resigns at Colorado State

I guess if you're married with kids & you are gonna take your girlfriend on team road trips and let her stay in the hotel with you, then you ought not beat her up! Now he is on administrative leave - LINK

there's an unconfirmed rumor that the head coaching job at Ole Miss has been offered to ex-NBA-er Penny Hardaway...
Penny Hardaway is the godfather to Darrell Brown, Jr. - just sayin'...

Penny Hardaway is in his first year as a high school coach at Memphis East HS. He has no college or pro coaching experience, and no connection to the University of Mississippi.
I can understand why some fans at Ole Miss like the idea of hiring him. He has instant name recognition, and the team he coaches, as well as the AAU program he has sponsored in Memphis for years, have some of the top talent in the country. He has also had a deal with Nike since his playing days, and Ole Miss is a Nike-sponsored school.
I doubt Hardaway needs the money, and his lack of experience may bother some people who would be hiring him.
And I do not believe Bradley has anything to worry about.
No official list of names has emerged yet.
