2017-18 Coaching carousel

Colorado State - Larry Eustachy resigns - Niko Medved HIRED...[/B][/SIZE]

figures released show the buyout for Larry Eustachy at Colorado State meant
he got his full salary for 2017-18 of $985,012 then got three payments of $250,000 each but is completely free to pursue other jobs...
I have seen his name mentioned in context of the Chicago State spot, which is still open, but I doubt he'd take it....but then, he's done other crazy things in the past

there's a report that Delaware State is finally going to hire a coach - Eric Skeeters

Skeeters sounds like an appropriate name for their new coach since the Delaware State nickname is the Hornets. It blends in the the insect theme. :)

Brandon Dunson, the younger brother of former Bradley Brave player Dodie Dunson, was just hired by Eric Musselman as an assistant coach at Nevada-

as soon as Brandon Dunson is hired at Nevada - they are coming hard after BU recruit and former ISU commit Chris Payton...
In an interview it is noted that both Dunson & Payton, of course, are Bloomington natives and Payton says this makes Nevada his leader

Lance Irvin is hired as head coach at Chicago State
...he ought to be able to get some of his Mac Irvin players there....might be a pretty good hire for them
He has formerly been assistant coach at Southern Illinois, DePaul, Loyola-Chicago, Iowa State, Illinois State, Texas A&M, Missouri, and SMU but most recently he has been assisting at Morgan Park HS. Lance successfully battled cancer in 2010-2012.
...and reportedly "has some players ready to sign".
Their current roster & other sources appear to have perhaps as many as 9 scholarship players returning plus five more players listed as walk-ons, and recruiting sites also list a couple kids verbaled but they don't have any incoming freshman who will be scholarship players - so Irvin will have a couple open scholarships to try to fill at this late date...and maybe a lot if some of those players choose not to return - time will tell.
The one guy who would have been their best player - and who has been their best player the past couple years, Fred Sims, Jr. - left last spring after his junior season and declared for the NBA Draft. He chose to stay in the draft but went undrafted and will now try to get a contract overseas or with a G-League team.

Remember - they come to Peoria to play us here in Peoria on Saturday November 24, 2018 at 1pm so we will be one of the first teams to get a look at the new Chicago State under Lance Irvin.

I think he's a good choice for Chicago State. If he can't get players to come there, nobody can. He will finally get the chance to show how good a coach he is.

There are rumors that another member of the Irvin family, Corry Irvin, who is the wife of Mac Irvin, Jr. (Lance's brother), will be hired as the women's head coach. She is the long time highly successful girls coach at Whitney Young HS.

Here is an article about the Irvin family-

Both new coaches will have a lot of work to do to rebuild respectability at CSU. The men's team was one of the worst teams in Division I last season. They went 3-29, but just 1-29 against D1 schools (2 of their wins were against schools named Silver Lake College and East-West University), and they finished with an RPI of 338.
The women's team was just as bad or worse. They went 1-29 least season and most losses were blowout losses and they finished with an RPI of 346 (out of 349). The scored just 28 points against Loyola, which finished 9th in the MVC, and they lost by 59 points to a bad UMKC team. Their only win came Feb. 8 against Utah Valley, which broke a 59 game losing streak!
Both head basketball coaches were fired way back on March 15- men's head coach Tracy Dildy and women's head coach Angela Jackson.

My question is: What took them so long to hire coaches? Could it be possible that the coaches had already been hired weeks ago but the official announcement came just today?

There were other factors. They needed to hire an athletic director first, since their previous basketball coach was also the AD. However, Chris Zorich was hired May 1st, and it took another 3 months for the coaches to get hired.
I suspect he would have liked to move quicker, but there probably were factors that got in his way.
There are reports that they needed to wait until late in the summer to see what the 2018-19 budget would allow for salaries and recruiting, since Chicago State is always in severe financial trouble. There have been rumors the school might close or merge with another school. And there have been rumors for years that they might have to drop some sports, and thus may drop out of Division I. Plus, there have been a series of scandals and corruption in their administration.
So maybe these or other factors affected their coaching searches.

Zach Naylor a 6'7" juco forward who averages 18 & 10. It is thought that he might decommit, but nothing has been announced yet. He will be one of the most sought after late recruits, though, and will probably have lots of offers if he does decommit.

Former Bradley recruit Zach Naylor is leaving Ole Miss & transferring
He barely played this past year there....
He was recruited to Ole Miss by Andy Kennedy but stayed on after they hired Kermit Davis - however
he clearly did not fit with what Davis wanted so he barely played.
