2019-2020 Coaching Carousel

Samford is reportedly about to hire Bucky McMillan as their next head coach. He was previously head coach at Mountain Brook High School in Alabama. He will also hire Jake Headrick as an assistant. Headrick has been an assistant under Dana Ford for the last 2 seasons.

A bit off topic but from 72-75 Ron Harris was the Head Coach at samford. Ron was an assistant for Joe Stowell, a Bradley graduate and later returned to Peoria. I remember Bradley playing Samford at the Fieldhouse in Ron’s second season at Samford.

I remember Ron well. He got out of coaching after his years at Samford and into private business in Peoria. He remained a dedicated Bradley fan and was at nearly every home game for many years. He was limited by Parkinsons Disease his last few years, but still tried to make it to games and Braves Club functions. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2018-

Loyola Marymount will hire Marquette associate head coach Stan Johnson as their new head coach.

Marquette Associate Head Coach Stan Johnson takes the head coaching job at Loyola Marymount.

That leaves a prime opening on the Marquette coaching staff under Head Coach Steve Wojciechowski. I am hearing there are a lot of coaches with connections in the state of Wisconsin who are interested in applying.
It will be interesting to see who is hired to fill the opening, or will they promote from within?
Rob Judson is there as a "Special Assistant to the Head Coach", a non-coaching position, although he is a qualified coach-

Could there be anyone at Bradley with interest?

UIC to hire Texas assistant Luke Yaklich. He has also been an assistant at Michigan and Illinois State. He did not play college basketball but was a student manager for the Illinois State team in the late 1990s.

I would wheel in Ron to some games. Yes he suffered from Parkinson's but was a dedicated BU fan until the end. Too bad he passed before seeing the recent success. He was more optimistic than me!

As posted above, former Wisconsin-Milwaukee head coach and current Minnesota assistant Rob Jeter is finalizing contract details and will become the next head coach at Western Illinois. Jeter was a candidate for the Bradley head coaching job in 2011 when he was then head coach at UW-Milwaukee, and it was rumored that Jeter was the personal favorite of President Joanne Glasser at one time, but other issues took him out of consideration.

One other coaching change of significance....
Tarleton State University is a Division II school that will join Division I officially on July 1, 2020. They just replaced their head coach, naming Billy Gillispie as their new head coach-
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...-Tarleton-State-head-coach-Div-I-15167615.php

Billie Gillispie is a former assistant coach at Tulsa and Illinois under Bill Self. He has been the head coach previously at UTEP, Texas A&M, Kentucky, and Texas Tech. He has had issues of player abuse and NCAA violations in his past, as well as a history of alcohol abuse and multiple arrests for DUI. But he is also known as a superb recruiter, and he has a history of winning, so Tarleton State is rolling the dice.

One D1 head coach who many thought was on the "hot seat" this season was Dave Leitao of DePaul. But despite going just 3-15 in the Big East and finishing in last place for the 4th straight season, Leitao just got a contract extension through 2023-24 from DePaul. Leitao is a good guy and it's nice for him, but DePaul fans are not too happy with this.

I heard Janet Glasser was the President at DePaul now.
