Yes, a lot of younger fans never got to see the great Wes Unseld play. He was considered the greatest player ever to play for Louisville, and one of the greatest college players of all time.
He was also a terrific NBA player who played his entire 13-year pro career for the Baltimore/Washington Bullets (now the Washington Wizards). But, because he was only 6'7" and played center in the same era as much bigger centers like Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Bill Walton, Moses Malone, Willis Reed, Artis Gilmore, Bob Lanier, Jack Sikma, and others, he never quite got the recognition as a pro that he deserved. I watched him at the Fieldhouse for Louisville vs. Bradley. He played for Louisville from 1965-1968, the same three seasons that Joe Allen played center for Bradley (players weren't eligible as freshmen in those years). They had some epic battles.
Here are Wes Unseld's stats for his 3 seasons at Louisville. He averaged almost 19 rebounds per game for his collegiate career, as well as averaging over 20 points per game in his career.-
