One of the first things Joanne Glasser did after being named President of Bradley University was to fire the very successful and highly liked and respected Director of Advancement (i.e. chief fundraiser) Tom Hammerton. It was an extremely unpopular move, and lead to a long string of unpopular firings and other moves that hurt Bradley significantly in many ways.
Tom went on to become the successful Vice President and Director of Advancement at OSF-St. Francis, and eventually the President of the OSF Foundation. He was responsible for raising $85 million to get the OSF Children's Hospital built, as well as hundreds of millions more for the OSF Foundation (see articles below). Meanwhile, Bradley fundraising suffered significantly after Tom left.

New Bradley President Stephen Standifird just announced the re-hiring of Tom Hammerton and named him Vice President for Advancement.

Is he related to Wayne Hammerton who used to coach at Richwoods?

Yes, I am pretty sure Tom is Wayne Hammerton's son.
As you noted, Wayne coached boys basketball at Richwoods for 26 years, and had some terrific teams. He also coached golf 31 years. He is in his 80's now, but I believe he still lives in Peoria.

Yes Tom is the son of Wayne. Tom has a son who is a Jr. at Richwoods and a very good golfer. His son is the best golfer in Dist.150 and also a very good diver on their swim team. Wayne still lives in Peoria and pretty sure he still works at Weaver Ridge.

There is a sophomore homeschooled kid who lives in Dist 150 who is the reigning IHSA Individual Golf Champion and reigning Journal Star Golfer of the Year, just sayin'
- he's also the grandson of a past Bradley Brave basketball player and his namesake

Yes you are correct he is a soph/being home schooled but he never went to a Dist.150 school. His Fr. year he went to a private school. I said Jack was the best golfer in Dist 150 and stand by that because as I said Weston was never enrolled in Dist. 150. Trust me I was not dismissing Weston at all. If he had been enrolled in a Dist.150 school he would have been the best golfer in 150. We are very lucky to have a lot of very good young golfers in the Peoria area and Weston and Jack are certainly two of the best.

Tom coming to BU is not a done deal and may not happen.....and his son Jack will be playing four sports at Richwoods…Golf, Diving, Baseball and Football

Is this a change? I hope not.

There was an announcement by the Bradley President of his hiring- https://www.bradley.edu/offices/comm...3-24aa43706278
Note the last line says he "will begin his role at Bradley on December 1."

There was a press release- https://week.com/2020/10/13/bradley-...r-advancement/
And Tom is already listed on the Bradley website as the Vice President for Advancement starting Dec. 1- https://www.bradley.edu/offices/pres...m/advancement/

Tom Hammerton made it official this morning by releasing a statement the he will not be joining Bradley, and will stay as VP for Development at OSF. Too bad, I think he would have been great at BU.
