Final: Bradley 68 Loyola 61

An all around good effort and thank goodness we don't have to hear about Loyola's in state winning streak any more! Loyola is very relentless on defense and we only had 11 turnovers which is a low total for us. I don't know if it's by design or what but it seems like Leons doesn't take many shots in the first half but he sure does in the 2nd half. He was 2-3 in the first half and 4-8 in the 2nd half. And he really plays good defense. Rienk was definately bothered by Loyola's physical play on offense as he was just 2-9 but it didn't affect his defense or offensive rebounding as he had 7 on each end of the court . Zek is definately earning more playing time and not just because of his offense. Nice to see Ville have another solid game offensively and played very well defensively as well. A true 40 minute effort. Onward!

This is exactly the type of "overall" team effort Bradley needs to play for the rest of the season. It was so awesome to see "other" players come in and fill in when "key" Bradley players were not having their best game. I was holding my breath during those last 5 minutes expecting a "at Loyola", "at Illinois State", "Missouri State" past game collapse - AND BRADLEY CONTINUED TO PLAY "POISED" BASKETBALL and MADE SOME KEY BASKETS. This team has come a LONG LONG ways to get to this point of MENTAL TOUGHNESS - NOT GIVING IN. 5 regular season games remaining - let's continue to "fine tune" this Bradley team and prepare for what may likely be a VERY TOUGH and VERY EXCITING MVC 2022 Tournament.

I thought we looked like the better, more talented team last night and the crowd was the biggest and loudest it's been this year. Great atmosphere and hope we see more of it to come.
My game notes:
1. Mast shot horribly, but was a total beast on the boards (14) and defense.
2. BW said on the post game that Roberts was 100%, so just consider that we just beat Loyola without arguably our best player at his best.
3. Leons. What can you say. This kid is completely unselfish and I wish he'd be more selfish. He is C L U T C H!
4. Zek. Nuff said (though I will say one thing, I believe he had 12 points in 10 minutes)
5. Ville continues to shoot well from 3's. He had a slow start this year, but he's been lighting it up pretty well in the 2nd half of the season.

Look out St. Louis, I think everyone is starting to take this team serious!

In the updated MVC statistics, in MVC games only, Bradley is now the top 3-point shooting team. The have improved to 36.3% (109-300) in MVC games. They are 2nd in 3-point percentage defense. They are 4th in overall FG%, and lead the MVC in FG% defense. They also lead in assists and assists to turnover ratio.
They continue to lead in the rebounding statistics, offensively and defensively, by a wide margin. -

Individual leaders-
Rienk Mast leads in rebounding with 8.4 rpg. Terry Roberts leads in assists with 4.5 apg. And Terry Roberts is the only BU player in the top 15 in scoring- he ranks 4th with 15.2 ppg

Of the 21 statistical categories the measure in the MEC, Bradley is currently #1 on 10 of them. Next highest is UNI with 4.

Mental toughness and closing out games earlier on may really be the only reason we aren’t at the top of the standings right now.

This team hardened and pulled together after the second injury to JaShon. That’s when I noticed the change.

Game is up on Youtube, but the first 12 1/2 minutes is cut out due to the previous game running over due to OT.

Did anyone else see the flagrant foul the refs missed with about a minute left? Chris Knight popped Mikey Howell with a raised elbow to the face while setting a screen at the top of the key. It rocked Mikey, but he must be a tough kid. I think if he would have gone down, the refs would have had to review it. From my seat a few rows behind the Loyola bench, I saw it plainly. Thanks to Tommy's posting of the broadcast on YouTube (which I will really enjoy tonight), I was able to get a screen grab of it.

Geez, Boya gets called for moving screens at least once a game, but the refs let this go. I know it can't be reviewed post-game, so I suppose Knight got away with it. I hope the Braves remember, though, and take Loyola out . . . of the tournament, and the MVC . . . in St. Louis.

Songwriter, couldn't agree more - Howell really got whacked good on that play and that tall, bald ref was looking right at it, or at least should have been since the ball was right there!

And Boya can't catch a break from the refs. They call him for literally any contact but when he goes up for a shot, he's got guys draped all over him and nothing. All in all though, the total foul count was under 35, so I can't complain, as I think the less fouls called, the better chance we have to win with our physicality.

Another call that I didn't like was the call they DID make when Leons was headed for a breakaway dunk. Instead, they called a foul and we didn't even get any foul shots. I was hoping for a clear path foul, but no dice. All good though, cause ya know what? We won, baby!

Yeah, that one was nuts.

I have good phone video of another pretty good one. With 10 sec left, Leons blocked a Williamson 3 pointer. Then was called for a foul on a follow-up 3 point attempt by Williamson. On the way to the ground, WIlliamson grabs Leons' arm and tries to pull him to the ground with him. Leons jerked free and kinda looked at the ref with palms raised like.... what?

From what Dub shared and also BUSongwriter shared - " Chris Knight popped Mikey Howell with a raised elbow to the face while setting a screen at the top of the key. "

These are excellent examples as to how Bradley has matured - they take it to the chops - absorb the blow and "move on". Everyone better believe that the opposing players will use whatever means "fair" and "unfair" to get under Bradley's skin especially during the MVC Valley Tournament. Under the hoop it literally is a "Battle Ground" .

Thanks Tommy, I watched it and my wife couldn't understand why because we were at the game. I told her it was that good of a game to watch it again.
Complete TEAM effort which if they continue to play this way anything is possible, like lets go DANCING in March.

haha! I get ya, for sure! Some games are worth going back and seeing the fine details! Do you have season tickets? Where do you sit? I'm usually right behind the visitors bench which is good for heckling the visiting coaches. :)
