Highly disappointing, especially if it was as blindsiding to the coaching staff as it appears. He is a really good player no doubt, but he also had a big turnover problem, and wasn't always great in big games. If he thinks he is a sure shot star at a higher level, I'm no so sure. He can be a nice piece on a bigger team, but he won't get the ball as much as he did/would have here.

This is why we can't put all of our eggs in next year's basket. I wonder where this puts the program expectations in terms of next year. I know we can reference last year's recruiting class as good, but that's not a guarantee this time around. Also, we can't keep using the excuse of roster turnover as a reason why we can't compete for the league championship (regular season). We need a lot of help on the perimeter now, so there will be (hopefully) a lot of new guys again contributing. This could be yearly at a mid-major type program now too.

I'd like to take a moment and say thanks to kids like Reink and Jashon who stay committed to a program. I think that's an admirable trait in today's world. Not that I fault everyone who leaves, but still want to shout out some guys who stay when they don't have to.

Don’t know how much longer I’ll watch college basketball if they continue to let this happen! It’s a joke. They need to go back to the transfer and you have to sit out a year.

Yes, disappointing, but not at all surprising. The NCAA, run by and for the Power 5 schools, have made 3 changes in the last couple years which have lead predictably to this current transfer situation, which was the intention all along. This creates a minor league system for the big boys to raid and replenish their talent every year.-
1) they created the Transfer Portal which allows players to openly advertise their "free agency"
2) they removed all penalties and disincentives for players to transfer, and
3) they created the NIL rules which allow wealthier schools to reward players who transfer with big money deals through NIL.

This is just the beginning. And it is not a short-term problem. It will get much worse.
 
This one is a kick in the gut. Bradley has nobody who can break their man down and get to the basket on a consistent basis. No drive and kick game. Without any starter quality transfers what is the lineup looking like next year?

Hickman, Tahvanainen, Montgomery, Leons, Mast...Henry, Linke and Ekono coming off the bench

Unless several of those guys see a big jump in their games, this is a bottom half team.

I bet we get at least one stud out of the portal and a quality Juco and/or Freshman recruit. Coach can seem to get guys here. The staff is incredible. Whoever brought up Yesufu hit the nail on the head. It will be interesting to see where Terry ends up. Sometimes the bright lights are nice, but you find out they’re shining on someone else.

Yep. I think the future for mid-majors is bleak. The power conference teams do everything they can to limit access for opposing teams from the smaller conference schools. Unfortunately, I believe it will not be in the long term interests to the NCAA and the tv revenue. It is more interesting to fans to see how the big seeded teams get defeated by lower seeds in the tournament. There is no logic for the Big Ten to keep receiving 9 schools in the tournament. Tonight, it was entertaining to see the win by St Peters over Purdue.

Terrible news! These rules instituted by the NCAA are a joke! The big money and power for it rule our world right now. Not in just sports but politics, business etc. Sickening! 8 Big Ten schools in, 8 OUT!! Go St Peters!! Sorry for the rant!
 
It is what it is. Hope Terry finds whatever he's looking for. The transfer portal is the new one and done and it looks like it's here to stay. I think Brian and the staff have adjusted to it pretty good and just have to hope they are prepared for the situation which I bet they are. Looking forward to seeing who we bring in.

Well said. Terry was a good player, most of the time for Bradley. I'm very disappointed that he is leaving but wish him well. It will be interesting to see if he can compete at a "higher level".
Unlike some folks, I look forward to attending next season's games even though one of our better players has elected to transfer.
 
The players are regularly referred to as "student athletes." It's clear that some are "athlete students," especially with the way things are structured now. School loyalty is a one-year commitment. I hope Terry finds a good fit, and I'm sad it won't be as a Brave next year. If BU lived up to its expectations with him next year, and had a fast start with a signature win or two before the Valley season, I'm confident he would have been playing before some big crowds in Peoria.

Thanks for the positive vibe Jim, and I’m sure we will all get there. As a highly loyal person, these things do take a lot of the fun out of college sports for me. I am loyal to BU hoops win or lose, I’m there in person supporting the team any way I can. It hurts when you get the tough news that you’re more loyal to the team than some of the actual players on the team. I was about to say something like “player loyalty to the team is no longer a thing” but that is not true. THANK YOU to all the loyal men on our team who do stay! You are exceptional. And increasingly rare.

On mid-day, Friday, Bradley junior Terry Roberts entered the transfer portal. By the end of the night, Roberts had messages some of the top programs in the country on his phone. Last year Roberts was the Missouri Valley Newcomer of the Year and was named first-team All-MVC.
On3 caught up with the 6-foot-3 point guard from North Amityville, New York, by way of Rock Hill (SC) Believe Prep, to see which schools had reached out in the first couple hours.
“Oregon, Oklahoma State, Florida, Kansas State, Tulsa, Wichita State, Missouri, etc.,” Roberts said.
 
The schools with popular programs and heavy fan involvement are slowly splitting off into the upper tier of D1. It is not a level playing field anymore. Why do you think Loyola is leaving the MVC? I know a lot of kids about to choose their college are heavily considering sports programs as part of their college decision making process. In the last few years I have heard multiple potential Bradley students state the lack of a top tier sports program being a negative in considering attending Bradley.

If they do not end the transfer portal I do not see how we can stop this without some pretty drastic changes.
