Teams that are successful in the NCAA tournament typically shoot the 3 well and have a lot of upper classmen. I think BW has figured this out and has built his team to not only have these two characteristics, but also, this year seems to be a change in their defensive focus to defend the 3's, which has probably led to a lot of the easy buckets on drives to the basket. In the past, I think the focus was more on defending the rim and less on the 3 point line, as I remember getting very frustrated with how poorly we seemed to defend the 3's.

At any rate, looks like Drake and Belmont are the two teams that seem to be the biggest challengers to us this year in the Valley, and I'm sure Murray State will continue to be an all or nothing contest depending how they shoot. Hope we can take care of business and have our best run ever under BW this year. I like our chances!

Impressive stats, but will still have to win Arch Madness to get into the Dance. Have to be an idiot not to know the odds of an at-large bid are stacked against mid-majors.

Haven’t seen stats like that in along time. Pretty impressive!

Can't make too much of these numbers early in the season, but it's nice to see such good outside shooting. Hope it keeps up.
...last night Memphis shot 6-17 from 3-pt which drops their season pct to 45.5%, Bradley remains at 45.3% until
12/14 ( a week from Saturday). Memphis plays 12/8 and 12/14.
The team just behind BU in NCAA's overall 3-pt shooting stats, Ohio State, shot just 4-19 last night, dropping their season 3-pt% to 42.4%.

who'd have thought that after 4 years in a row losing our best 1 or 2 players, that we'd still be the #1 offensive team in the MVC,
while also being #1 in FG% Defense!

Well, number 2 if you count all games. But if you only count D1 games (which KenPom does and I do when it makes Bradley look slightly better) they are #1!

But perhaps like me your first thought is “Wait a second, they hit a team record 22 threes against Judson!” I did not realize until I checked how many they shot—53! So it was “only” 41.5% and drops them below Memphis on ESPN. But on KenPom they are still #1.

I am with everybody in being impressed with the shooting numbers. Hope it stays that way. But as the season goes on the law of averages says the percentage will drop somewhat. Offense will win you games, but as my old coach Can Scyoc always emphasized, offense wins you games but defense wins you championships.

Coach Van Scyoc was right... when a team is playing for a championship, they will be playing against an opponent that is usually very good offensively, so defense often makes the difference.
But, this Bradley team has been very good defensively as well as offensively.

MVC stats - https://mvc-sports.com/documents/2024/11/5//2024_25_MVC_MBB_All_Game_Stats.pdf

Bradley is # 1 in the MVC in multiple offensive categories-
# 1 in scoring offense (83.56 ppg)
# 1 in FG% (51.1%)
# 1 in 3pt FG% (45.3%) # 1 in scoring margin (17.44 ppg)
# 1 in 3 point FGs made (11.67/game)

But Bradley also excels in multiple defensive categories-
# 3 in scoring defense (66.11 ppg allowed, despite playing a faster tempo than any MVC school)
# 1 in FG% defense (40.2%)
# 2 in 3-point FG% defense (26.9%)
# 2 in blocks (4.22/game)
# 2 in steals (8.67/game)

BU rank in other categories-
# 4 in Free Throw percentage (72.4%) # 2 in assists (17.89/game)
# 2 in assist to turnovers ratio (1.46)
# 5 in turnover margin (+1.44)
# 1 in home attendance (5,183/game)

well, it's only a statistic but....
Memphis played today and had another really poor shooting game - losing to Arkansas State...

When NCAA updates their 3 point shooting pct stats tomorrow, it will show Bradley as #1 in all of Division I

Bradley shot exceptionally well again from 3-point tonight.
When the official NCAA stats replot again tomorrow morning, it should show the Braves leading the nation
with over 45% and almost a 4% lead over the next closest team. There are four MVC teams in Division I's top 13 teams
in 3-pt shooting pct - BU, UNI, ISU and Murray State.

That's amazing to have 2 MVC teams at the top of that stat. Honestly, it tells me UNI is probably going to make more noise come the end of the season than most people think. 3 point % is one of the most important stats that relate to winning in my humble opinion!

Bradley was 7-25 from three today, which was, by far, the worst 3 point FG% of any game this season. The previous worst shooting game was against Santa Clara when they went 10-26 (38.5%).
Bradley's season 3-point FG% dropped from 45.7% to 44.4% (146-329). That is still good enough to lead the MVC by a big margin, and it should be good enough to stay # 1 in the country among D1 schools when the updated NCAA stats come out tomorrow morning.
