Indiana St. vs Duke

I no longer want us to play these type of games because it does not help you to go on the road and be soundly beaten by these teams. I would be ok. playing on a neutral site.

It does give the team and program more exposure, since these types of games will get a national TV audience. But, I agree that I'm not sure that accomplishes much if you get slaughtered. How much good did it do that Bradley played at Duke in 2010, and got beat 83-48. The 5-6 years that followed that game were the worst years for recruiting and team performance in my lifetime.

Geno team playing Duke. What could go wrong?

that game at Duke was during Jim Les' final year, in which his entire coaching staff was sabotaged and undermined by Joanne Glasser,
and he was forced to hire new assistants, one of whom was Glasser's pick and not his.

Also, a half dozen or more of Les' recruits were vetoed by Joanne and they went elsewhere - including one who led the entire nation (NCAA Division I) in 3-point shooting ,
and another who averaged 12.3ppg in the SEC and hit 45.3% of his 3-pointers. Plus another who became a key player on ISU teams
that won 20+ games.

reminder- Jim Les' overall record in seasons that he was able to choose and hire his own assistants without interference & overriding
by the administration was 102-71, with four post-season appearances, a sweet Sixteen, plenty of top talent, multiple 1000-point scorers,
and three guys who played in the NBA.
It was one of the best stretches in Bradley basketball history and, once Joanne got her way and hired all her own people,
was immediately followed (2011-16) by the single worst stretch in Bradley basketball history (51-113) accompanied by a >50%
drop in the fanbase, revenue & attendance.... all the while being cheered on by the clueless PJStar crew and a handful of moroninc
Les-hating fans who never gave a dime to support the program and were so desperate to see him gone that they were willing to tank
most of the next decade to get their way.

You are right about Joann. She did more to hurt Bradley University and enriched herself during her reign than anyone. She used to live across the street from me, until Ryan Sandberg came to coach the Chiefs. Every time her name is mentioned, a shot of gastric acid enters my GI system

I would absolutely relish an opportunity like this. Didn't Evansville go to Duke and beat them not too long ago? imagine this last years team going to a big name. I wouldn't have been surprised if they squeaked out a win somewhere.

It was Evansville beating Kentucky. I believe they got the game because at that point Walter McCarty was the coach and he was a great player for Kentucky. Shortly thereafter Walter got in the grease, was dismissed and the Evansville team totally fell apart.

Evansville did play at Duke in the 2017-18 season (Dec. 20, 2017), and, no, they did not win. The result wasn't pretty. Duke beat them 104-40.
Evansville actually had a winning record that season (17-15). They were 9-11 in the MVC, finishing tied for 7th place, two games behind Bradley.

Here is the summary of that game- https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2017/...osts-career-night-as-aces-fall-to-4-duke.aspx
And the box score- https://gopurpleaces.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2017-18/duke/boxscore/8208
It looks like Duke took it easy on the Aces. Duke's starters played as few as 18 minutes in the game. Duke's Wendell Carter scored 27 points in 18 minutes of playing time!
As I said earlier, I am not sure that getting such an embarrassing beat down like that served any useful purpose, other than going home with a nice check from Duke.

You might be thinking of the 2019-20 season when Evansville went to Kentucky and beat them 67-64- https://gopurpleaces.com/news/2019/...efeats-top-ranked-kentucky-at-rupp-arena.aspx
It was early in the 2019-20 season (11/12/19), and Kentucky was the #1 ranked team at that time. But despite the euphoria in Evansville over what was probably the greatest upset in UE history, it didn't do much good for them. The Aces went on to lose their last 21 games that season, and end up with the worst MVC season possible, finishing the conference season 0-18, then making a quick exit from the MVC Tournament in St. Louis.
