After 77 years on the air, WIRL is shutting down

Long before Dave Snell, we listened to Mort Cantor, Ken Brown & others doing the play-by-play then the midnight replay

AM radio stations are not very profitable any more and are slowly dying off. Younger generations do not listen to AM, and even FM radio is on the decline as millennials and Gen Z'ers mainly listen to podcasts, or streaming devices. The last couple cars I rented did not even have AM radio installed on them.

I haven't listened to radio (AM/FM) in probably a decade on a somewhat regular basis. Like DC said, so many other options without ads and u can easily select what u want to listen to.

It is interesting that how different age groups connect with media. I still enjoy watching CBS Sunday Morning and 60 minutes, though I often record it instead of watching it live. My sons connect with pod casts, with Joe Rogan being the most popular. I still listen to 670 the Score in my car, but it recently added FM 104.3. I also connect with Audacy App to connect to Chicago radio stations and Sunny 98.1 San Diego. In time I predict that all AM stations will disappear and then FM stations. Also, eventually the US Post Service will not deliver mail, only packages, like Denmark. Changes in media are occurring faster than I anticipated.
