NCAA considering changes to eligibility rule

Others have posted there will be waivers for mission work, maternity leave, and military service. Also, the window for foreign players might shrink because they will be subject to the same rule. Some don't come to the US to play until they are over 20 y/o.

If we want that to be the standard, full reform of the education system would be needed next. Most D1 basketball players haven't been getting "real" degrees for over 20 years. When I was in school most of the players were "communications" majors or some other fake degree.
 
they change the rules every year - so expect that enough people will whine about these rule changes and they'll change them again

They're not changing rules because of whining, they're changing the rules that they've had zero ability to enforce this decade. No matter your view on the Portal / NIL (I despite the current state obviously), anti-trust laws are anti-trust laws
 
If the NCAA rules that every player now gets 5 years of eligibility, I anticipate there could be lawsuits from former players who were restricted to just 4 years, and now want to get in on another year of NIL money.

I thought there was a rule a player had 5 years to complete 4

They still are communication majors. When I attended the Fall Spaghetti dinner at the Itoo hall last fall, most of the men and women players were communication majors. Some unrealistically believe that there will be a job in sports media. Unless you are a player like Charles Barkley, Shaq, or Stacey King or Kendall Gill in Chicago, you have zero chance of getting that job.

That had been the NCAA rule for many years, though in recent years the NCAA has allowed many waivers. Now they are proposing a new rule that allows everyone 5 years of eligibility (see top post).

There are some whose majors are "General Studies" and others who are undecided. Some juniors are undecided. Not sure what courses either of them take, maybe a little of this and a little of that. What a waste of a scholarship. Give the scholarship to someone who really wants an education, who puts the "student" back into "student-athlete."

I believe parents are still wanting their son or daughter to get an education. I think they still need to keep stressing that when recruiting

The value of a college education has plummeted in the past 10+ years. You won't see this happening.
 
NCAA meets today to discuss giving all athletes 5 years of eligibility.
If enacted quickly, Meta, Alex, AJ & Corey could all return?
That’s gonna mess with our scholarship grid!
