Practice....

Why can't we be like most every other team in the ncaa and play players by skill, talent, basketball i.q. or other b-ball essentials? We decide to play players by their performance in practice. hooray matt salley had a great week in practice.. that means he will be a beast in the game... 35 minutes for you! same thing i guess in the opposite direction for collins/rashad. face it coach salley sucks and you couldn't slide a 90 page notebook under sam singh when he jumped- just suggesting a change when something isn't working (we weren't awful when egolf, collins etc. got more p.t)

I would like to see RA in the game at the same time MS is in....and sub them with DC and SS......TW is clearly outmatched down low.....let's get real here....he is only 6'4 and 190 lbs? Every player tonight backed him down with ease....it is not his fault...he is just too small to play the 4 IMO.....lets get big and give some match up problems for the other team once!

Question......are the coach's getting this team ready to compete.....are we using our best player's on the court?

Has anyone ever asked JL why he insists on a 4 guard line up with either a center who is a small forward (Salley) or a center who can not jump (Singh) when we are getting out rebounded nightly by double digits.

This whole thing is so frustrating.

Guys...I know we are frustrated but shouldn't we refrain from the "______ sucks" comments. These guys haven't quit. Sure maybe they don't have the talent we want but they are giving us what we have. Besides this isn't about ONE player.....this is an entire team falling apart.

With that said....its tough to watch. Can ONE player really make THIS much difference?

I saw this team look pretty good..in fact REAL good against a team that is playing very well right now Vandy.

Most of us saw a pretty good team battle another VERY good team in MSU.

This isn't fun but lets hope the team remains positive and keeps working hard.

To start you are partly correct dogs, i think. I have to bring Les's rotation choice is a bit, um i dont know the word...dumb! In the second half he played six guys. Collins and Egolf both capable rebounders didnt even touch the floor. Yet Salley, i guess a "very hard worker in practice" but he doesnt do anything on the floor. why is he getting 35 mins a game? He had one basket, two free throws, and 5 fouls in 35 mins. Thats rock solid production. Now i think if someone isnt having a good game you dont play them almost the whole game. And BuBraves55 is right i dont think SS can jump over a 90 page notebook.

We heard how good Salley was at the beginning of this year, I was doubtful. I saw him in the Red/White and agreed. Once we started playing against new competition, he disappeared.
I'm afraid that Salley would become good by the 3rd game in a best of 5 series, but when he faces a new team every game...

couldnt have said it better myself. I mean were in a hole now, why not try something new?

I agree. We have lost 5 in a row. How much worse can it get? I mean we are probably gonna make it 6 in a row on Tuesday when we go play an SIU team that isn't having a good season either. Something has to change because this was just very difficult to watch. I have tried to stay positive during the stretch, but there is a difference between staying positive and trying to find the silver lining and just being naive thinking that this team can actually compete.

Dogs... I cut your quote short to make my point.. Sorry in advance if this doesnt express your opinon.

IMO,the ONE player we miss is Will Franklin. Among other things, this team lacks the one player who can step up to score points in the clutch.
With Ruff out, SamM probably comes close but this is a lot to ask of a freshman.

other points mentioned on this thread...

Sam Singh- Because of injuries, he is a role player ment to spell our bigs...
He has worked hard this year and is playing more minutes than everyone probably expected.. SS deserves better than what is being said of him in this thread..imo

Will Egolf--has had a few postive moments but has had an equal amount of times when he has been lost on the floor.. When he has been in recent games, his defense has been decent, he has gotten the occasional rebound, and doesnt really score... The only way I give Will significant minutes is if we give up on the season and get him the experience now that he will need for the future... (we are getting to this point fairly quickly)

Collins-he is soft...he makes mistakes... we lost games while he was playing and we are loosing with DC on the bench. I think now more than ever we start DC with Salley.

Matt Salley--- guys like it or not he is the only big that we have... He is a 4 playing the 5..has his flaws but the effort is there... I think he starts but with a bigger overall lineup..

Rashad Austin- well you know what I think here... But, I dont think that we start RA... I do think that we have RA as the first big off the bench to see what he can and can not do in a game situation. I think RA has the chance to be our best 4 player but need to see more to be certain.

Finally: The four guard offense-- shoot it....kill it...bury it..... Lets simplify things and put in a bigger lineup.

Bigs? What bigs? Who are these bigs you speak of?
Well as you know we dont have an inside game... I have had a few cold ones tonight so I probably should have said that SS's role on this team at the begining of the year would have been to sub for MS and or DC...
you know the soft 7 footer currently on the bench;)

Does this team really practice? If so, what exactly do they do in practice? Play Xbox and take turns giving each other haircuts?

Because I was under the impression that the coaching staff of a quality Div I program would watch film from the previous game(s)...identify the areas, offensive/defensive sets, etc. that we are having problems with...and then spend the time in practice emphasizing those areas and making the necessary personnel and/or game plan adjustments to assure those same deficiencies would not be on display in the next game.

Instead, it appears that this coaching staff chooses to watch the film...ignore everything they see...place no priority on rebounding fundamentals...make zero personnel adjustments...tell everyone that will listen that we are 'Redefining Brave'...and then run the same 7 man rotation out there in the next game and just cross their fingers that we will magically play better defense and rebound the basketball.

It's like paying $8 to watch "Dude, Where's My Car" once and then renting it again 4 days later and expecting it to not suck. It's still the same horrible movie...just a different day.

You my friend are a beast!

Is this the least talented team Jim has had in his tenure at BU? If the answer is 'no', then one MUST ask the questions that need to be asked...I personally think this is not the most talented group, but one of the better groups. I know that the staff would have killed for this many bigs in Jim's 1st and 2nd year. Whether or not the results would have been the same is anyone's guess.

ER 3 I totally agree and Bradley Brave we were told by Coach Les at the start of the season that this was the most talented team he has ever had; i also heard this all summer long about how good we were going to be; the coaching staff needs to take the blame as these players are lost when it comes to help defense as opposing teams use layup drills on us and have been for quite some time; I guess when we lost Chuck B. we lost our defensive coach; also whomever is teaching rebounding you get an f for a grade; please get coach Versaces advice on this as his teams were always good rebounders and years ago I saw him do a clinic on this .
