Practice....

Does anybody else wonder what the progression of bigs like DC and Zach Andrews would have been if Al Biancalana was still on the staff?

I don't. Our defense was awful when Al was on the staff and our rebounding wasn't very good either. DC seemed to be developing nicely when he was getting the minutes.

Ouch...don't sugar coat it next time, just give it to me straight, lol.

Al B could develop a big man though. POB still credits him to this day for his success.

Just read in the paper about the Illinois asst coaches telling Bruce that McCamey needs to start even though he does not practice well; he scored 18 points; also I was at a clinic that coach Versace was speaking and he said that he had several players that always seemed to practice great but when the lights were on and the stands were full of people they just couldn"t perform; his statement was every good coach has to decide if they want good practice players or good game players.

I believe that most of the time you'll get better teams by playing good practice players. MJ was known as a fierce competitor in practice, so great players can practice well. I have no problem with practice always determining the starting lineup.

I also attribute a great deal of out S16 run to the practice=playing mantra. JJ's contribution in the last 2 years was due to this philosophy.

It needs some flexibility. I think a player can start looking too good against familiar competition (How Salley looked dominant in practice and the red/white, but seems to disappear in real games) Unless a player is obviously not trying in practice, you need some consideration to game performance.

I've been saying since the R/W scrimmage ... playing 2 or even 3 bigs at once will solve a lot of problems.

The 4 guard offense was great last year, because we had no other choice. But coach Les, please, please, please play to your team's strengths!! don't let so much size rot on the bench!

Can we do worse? Sadly, we may find out. :-( I love my Braves, and won't bail on this team now or ever, but its getting really painful.

and the other two guards that graduated were smart, quick, played great D and were clutch.

I have believed for some time now that David Collins has to play significant minutes for us to be successful this year. That being said, if he is truly not giving an effort in practice worthy of playing time then leave him on the bench. I am willing to take the losses now rather than have Jim comprimise his practice philosophy. A house divided against itself cannot stand, and if we leave his philosophy in tact someday we'll have unlimited potential when we get both the players and the work ethic together in the same year. Sam M is th example of what defines heart and effort that I want Bradley to be known for. Win or lose I want all out effort, zero fear, all heart, gritty play.

Unless he get some minutes DC isnt going to develop. Yes he is going to make some mistakes out there but right now almost everyone on the team is too. If nothing else having a 7-footer on the defensive end will at least alter some shots!

One big problem I have noticed about this team is that even when we come into a game with a good plan and have a lead at the half our opponents are able to adapt to what we are doing. JL seems unable to do that and we get outplayed in the second and end up with a loss!

Getting circles run around us in the 2nd half...looks a lot like the pre-Bish years of the JL tenure. I really thought we were past that, but a head coach is only as good as his staff. I personally don't think the staff is very good right now.
