1 MVC game Sunday 12/9

Creighton cruises to win...

but guard Josh Jones was held out and didn't play in the last game on Thursday either...

Prior to Thursday's game he passed out and was taken to the hospital in Lincoln, NE then transferred back to Omaha where he underwent testing.
Back when Jones was in high school - he has a rare infection inside his heart and had to have open heart surgery and have his aortic valve replaced.
Since there are extremely few people who have had this kind of surgery that subsequently play high level competitive sports - Jones is sort of in uncharted territory and the concern is that he may have had a dangerous arrhythmia that caused him to pass out

Creighton's Josh Jones held a press conference today and announced he will not play for the near future. He will need to have another heart procedure. The best case scenario has him returning in late January, but it is possible he may not be cleared to play again.

More details are likely to come, but my suspicion is that his "black out" spell prior to Creighton's Dec. 6 game at Nebraska was found to be related to a kind of arrhythmia, and he will probably need a procedure to protect him from the arrhythmia disrupting his heart in the future.

Wow, what a blow to Creighton and the Valley. But great that they caught this now since a person's life is far more important. I'm assuming Creighton still has more than enough depth to make up for his loss.

More information revealed about Creighton player Josh Jones- the heart arrhythmia that caused his blackout was atrial flutter, a less serious rhythm disturbance than ventricular fibrillation which is what caused the death of Hank Gathers some years ago. Nonetheless it causes an abnomally fast heart rate that can lead to blackouts. He will undergo a procedure called Radio Frequency Ablation, which uses a catheter to destroy abnormal conduction tissue from inside the heart that allows the abnormal rhythm to start. It will take a month of recovery before testing can confirm if it was successful, and if so, Jones might be able to return to the court.

It's being reported tonight that Creighton's Josh Jones' career is over. Tough break for a good kid. Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.
