1 MVC game tonight- Evansville at North Carolina

91-73 Final

Not a bad showing for Eville. The Len Elmore starting giving them a lot of credit throughout the game...

yeah that was actually very impressive. Only an 18 point loss to the #1 team at their place, and kept them out of triple digits which UNC has been averaging in their last 6 games. EU should finish in the upper half of the MVC. I'm going to go out on a limb and say they finish 3rd.

Aces finished with 13 tos and they had 7-8 the first 4-5 mins. if it wasn't for the jitters they show very well...

I thought Evansville played great. Make no mistake though that had UNC not put in their 2nd string, they would've scored over 100 points easily and Evansville might not have scored that many points. Evansville could be a force to deal with this year though.

Fair enough...but I wonder how often their reserves got in in the last 6 games as well....something to think about, but I stand by statement...

duh.....when?? All I ever heard was butt-kissing for Hansbrough, UNC, Phil Ford, and anything lite blue...it was getting a little sickening....even to the point that I wondered if the announcers even knew there was game going in front of them.

I guess I should have put my money where my mouth is! Evansville had a pretty solid showing against an excellent team. Considering the fact that the Aces missed 8 of their 15 free throws, the margin could have been even closer. I think Evansville will be right there in the Valley race.

I thought he talked pretty favorable about Evansville in the second half.
He talked how they don't quit and they will be a force in the Valley. He said quite a bit really.

I'm guessing most announcers would say the same thing(and often) about any player who breaks the career scoring record at home when winning by 20-25 points.

At the end of the half, right before they went to halftime, and their halftime summary they talked about how eville could have just come out and taken a beating but was fighting for every loose ball and playing there arse off... then towards the end of the game they talked about how this game will really help Eville in the MVC and they have a shot to compete this year. They mentioned how they only won 9 games all last year and they already had 7 this year...

Sure UNC got most of the attention... any reason they shouldn't have? Does the majority of the ESPN audience really care about Evansville at all?

I hate the East Coast and BCS bias as much as anyone... but ESPN is a business and their goal is to have the nation watch them... not to please 2% of the population who are Evansville/MVC fans...

There were plenty of examples... I guess some people just don't hear things they don't want to hear... selective listening I believe its called... or perhaps... you just changed the channel

I was impressed with Evansville. They did a lot of things a team needs to do to win in the Valley. They were over matched in size, speed and jumping and never quit. I thought the announcers did a decent job recognizing Evansville considering they were playing the #1 team in the nation. Can you imagine if Dickie V would have been on the game

The color guy talked briefly about the valley, and he said how he was impressed with Wichita State when he saw them earlier in the year, and he said-
"and they were picked anywhere from 9th to 11th in the Missouri Valley"!

I looked, but I couldn't find anyone who picked them 11th.

where do you guys find the time scrutinize every little thing announcers say?
If they were picked 9th or 10th does it really make much difference if they were off one place?
For a team that got beat 20plus the announcers talked pretty highly of them

I believe it is called nit-picking (sp??)

I didn't think I needed to explain this gaffe.

The announcer said WSU was picked "anywhere from 9th to 11th".
He obviously believed there were 11 teams in the MVC, thus showing that he knew much less about the MVC than he tried to make people believe.

Well I doubt he knows exactly how many teams are in the non-BCS conferences because they don't focus on them. He talked about a few teams in the MVC like any announcer does when they are on TV.

Little things like that don't seem that important.....maybe he was confusing the MVC with the Big Ten:D

Maybe, but I have seen the hours of sit-down research that professional announcers like Snell and Stowell do before every game so that they are familiar with the teams. It struck me that if the guy doesn't even know how many teams are in the conference, then he probably didn't do a bit of research, other than how to pronounce names.

The reserves have played plentiful every game this season. Like DC or someone else said, their reserves could be a starting 5 on most teams and Evansville played decent against them in the 2nd half. UNC's starters probably could of made this a 40 point win but what's the point. I think Evansville did decent and may actually be out of the Thursday night play in rut.
