16 players

Right now, BU's website lists 16 men on the roster for this coming season. I assume there will be a few redshirts... any thoughts on who?

Keep in mind that three are walk-ons...

...and the injury bug...

...and some inconsistency.

I don't think we need a 'redshirt by choice' discussion. I think we just hope to have this "problem" of 13 healthy scholarship athletes all fighting for time. Injuries just make me not so optimistic. Guess you never know!

speaking of overstocking your roster...
here is an example of a kid who is going to an already STACKED Purdue, and he's verballing there even though Purdue doesn't have a scholarship open for 2010, and isn't expecting one..

Here's what the article says...

"Donnie Hale...committed to Purdue Tuesday night.... becomes Purdue's fourth
2010 verbal commitment....pushing the Boilermakers into an over-sign situation.

In the event a scholarship does not come open for 2010, Hale will attend a
yet-to-be-determined prep school for a year, then go on scholarship at Purdue in 2011."

Hale is ranked just outside the Top 100

BTW--
here's a tricky way to get yourself moving up in some rankings...

just claim publicly that you have 32 offers!!!
(even though the top two he mentions are Billy Gillispie at Kentucky and John Calipari at Memphis.
Since neither of those two coaches are there any more, I kinda think the kid is pulling our legs.)

Here is a blog from the Indianapolis Star by a Purdue writer who offers a few scenarios how Hale could end up with a scholarship for 2010 to Purdue.
http://blogs.indystar.com/purdue/

Note one scenario is this one involving former Bradley recruit Ryne Smith.-
Redshirt freshman guard John Hart OR sophomore guard Ryne Smith get caught in an overloaded backcourt and transfers to a smaller school. Hart is a good athlete, but he's not going to play ahead of E'Twaun Moore, Keaton Grant, Chris Kramer, Lewis Jackson, DJ Byrd and probably Kelsey Barlow. Smith is a great kid and a great distance shooter, but his defense needs a ton of work to defend the perimeter at this level.

Purdue is loaded and if all goes well they will be a top 5 team for the next few years. They have done a great job recruiting talent and it appears pretty good kids all around. I expect them and Mich St to fight it out in the Big X for the foreseeable future.
