2/27 - Will Franklin's side of the story.. Interesting.....

Let me get this straight: People think the PJS had this well in advance, in a competitive place like the world of media, the biggest story in the town, involving the most visible team in town and its star point guard. And instead of publishing it right away, they sit on it and give other media outlets the chance to get the same story? Highly doubtful.

Scouter I was not blaming the PJS but the administration for not bring this to light sooner if they indeed had this information before last night! Yes the PJS would sit on it because who else outside Peoria is trying to get the scoop! If the BU administration comes forward earlier than the PJS would have had to put it in print.

And did the BU admin. play the PR game correctly? That is what I am talking about that the school in this circumstance should not be playing a PR game but they should be doing what is right and that is if they knew of the circumstance of the event before last nights game DR should have played PERIOD! That would have been the right thing to do PERIOD, not the right PR move!

I was referring to local media. You know, like WEEK, WMBD (radio and TV) and WHOI.

It would have taken a Houdini-like effort to have escaped hearing the story many of us heard Saturday at the game, and of course,
Will Franklin was prominently visible in the arena and could have easily been approached for a comment.
I know nothing more than that, and yet even the police statement about the injury occurring when Ruffin tried to get the woman to leave his apartment,
this info was also available Saturday, but none of this was ever reported by the PJ Star until Wednesday morning.

Please review this time line and see the reports in many, many media about the lip injury, and it comes direct from Peoria Police spokespeople, but is never reported locally!
Note also that the quote of the police spokesperson never mentions the choking.

So you think if Dave Reynolds or Kirk Wessler just walked up to Will Franklin on Saturday, he would've voluntarily told him what happened??? HA! Good luck...

Like the story said, the PJS got its information from the police report, via the Freedom of Information Act. It can sometimes take days for a request to go through. Police can even take out parts of the report, just like they took out Ruffin's statement to police after the incident.

I was under the impression the university was doing their own investigation. How is it they missed the same facts the pjs has conveniently missed in the past four days?

This is a reply from Jerry Smith at the JS to a post on PL's column.

"In fairness to all concerned, neither Phil Luciano nor our reporters were given access to Danny Ruffin's original statement to police. The police purposely excluded Danny Ruffin's statement originally, saying that his statement would harm the prosecution. The Journal Star was given a copy of the statement only after filing a request through the Freedom of Information Act. The Journal Star reported that information as soon as we could."

Did I not just say that?

...So you think...

tell me this...
If you had heard there was an eyewitness to whatever happened,
and that the eyewitness was sitting right next to you and you've interviewed the guy many times before, and he's a known public figure,
and that you are a reporter for the paper,
then I would wonder why nobody asked him.
I am not saying there isn't a reason, I just don't know what it is?

Phil Luciano's column today seems like a slap in the face to Bradley Basketball.

After I read his opinion about the ongoing situation I felt disgruntled and lost my appetite for breakfast.

Bradley Basketball not a big deal? Well it's a big deal to me. Maybe that makes me lame or makes my life look shallow and unfulfilled. Bradley Basketball gives me pride in our community and something to look forward to when the days are so dreary and cold outside.

College basketball can be a great ambassador for a town too. I bet alot more people have heard of Spokane Washington and know where it is now compared to 15 years ago.

Perhaps they didn't know Franklin had any involvement? That's the most logical argument, but I don't know. People are assuming the PJS knew this all along. I think it'd be silly if they knew he was there, but didn't ask them.

I would venture to say the only reason they didn't publish it before was because they didn't know he was there. There's a good chance they may not have known WF was there since his name was never publically mentioned until the PJS saw him in the police report, which they apparently just obtained.

And if this was all so easy to find, how come NO OTHER MEDIA OUTLET IN THIS TOWN knew of or reported Franklin witnessing the incident?

If you can show me anywhere on this board where Will Franklin was mentioned as a witness before this morning, be my guest.

You are probably referencing a source other than the PJStar ... but this was known last night...

PJStar- Ruffin Apologizes to fans for distraction & Witness named..
http://www.pjstar.com/php/index.php?...gizes_to_fans/

Quote:
"I apologize to our fans for the distraction that occured the past few days," Ruffin said to the crowd. "I just hope you still support me through this."
Quote:
Former Bradley teammate Will Franklin told police he was hanging out with Ruffin in the player's apartment at 908 N. Frink when White came to visit after midnight.

scouter...those were the very posts the moderators have removed because they spoke of involvement by an individual before it was confirmed independently, but they have been on the board and you must have just missed them..........
and that is something we have rules about. read the rules...............we have to follow the rules

"discussion of players should be limited to their performance on court. Discussions of off-court issues involving players will be strictly limited to verifiable reports and discussions in good taste. Exceptions are granted only if the subject has been reported in the media or released by the University athletic department."

Fair enough. I guess I don't spend enough time on here searching for the "truth" and reading every post...
