here are the rankings of the kids in the Class of 2009 in ILLINOIS.
Class of 2009 top 20 in-state prospects
1. Joseph Bertrand 6-foot-4 point guard Sterling
Bertrand is beginning to put it all together this spring and colleges are noticing. He is too passive at times, but he has all of the tools. He could be a true point guard that can dominate games even when he doesn't score.**
2. D.J. Richardson shooting guard Peoria
The 33rd-ranked player in the Rivals class of 2009, Richardson is a smooth athlete that can score in bunches. He needs to show more going to the rim and finishing, but his mid range game is outstanding. **
3. Marcus Jordan 6-foot-3 wing Loyola Academy or Chicago Whitney Young
M.J's son may be the most athletic prospect in this class, but he still needs to refine his jumper. It is almost impossible to keep him from getting to the rack and he can finish with either hand.
4. Darius Smith 6-foot-2 guard Chicago Marshall
Smith had an excellent high school season and has followed that up this spring. The question becomes as to whether or not he is a point guard or a shooting guard. Nevertheless, he is a player.
5. Chris Colvin 6-foot-2 guard Chicago Whitney Young
Quick and athletic, Colvin is a jump shot away from being an elite level player. As a point guard he could be a defensive presence on the ball and a creator on offense. He has solid vision, but sometimes will force the action when he gets into the lane. **
6. D'Mitri Riggs guard Bloomington
Riggs has slid a little, but he has big potential. Right now he is almost totally left handed and even uses his left hand going to his right sometimes. He can score and should really emerge from the shadow of Justin Bocot and Lonnie Lawrence next year at Bloomington.
7. Jordan Prosser power forward/center Eureka
Prosser has good strength and a nice build, but he is a 6-foot-7 center right now. If he grows he becomes a very good center prospect, or else he needs to improve his quickness and become better with the ball facing the basket as a forward. **
8. Michael Haynes small forward Chicago Washington
Haynes is an inside force at the high school level, but unless he grows he will have to develop a better game facing the basket. Time will tell if he moves up or down the list over the next two years.
9. Brandon Paul 6-foot-3 shooting guard Warren
A sleeper prospect that has flown under the radar in this class. Expect him to rise in the rankings as he continues to develop and gain exposure. Some have called him 2009's version of Iman Shumpert.
10. Xavier Humphrey 6-foot-3 wing Oak Park Fenwick
As physically developed as anyone in this class, and has a solid floor game. He isn't consistent enough on offense with his jump shot and plays better inside than out sometimes.
