2016 transfer list

The transfer situation in college basketball is terribly frustrating. Kids don't allow programs to develop them. I understand that some kids shoot too high thanks in part to AAU, and then it becomes apparent right away. However, it seems like picking a new school is a year to year thing for some kids.

Here is an intriguing one...

DI Lewis University star Max Strus...who is a sophomore but maybe would be a grad transfer if he's got the coursework doner - a 6-6 guard (Jeremy Crouch-type) - good shooter, can definitely create his own shot,
and yet plays well in all other aspects.... hits close to 50% overall, 36% from the arc, 82% on FTs
is leaving and planning to transfer to a DI - like Jimmy Gavin did...
He is a solid DI talent averaging 20.2 ppg, 8.4 rpg, and 3.5 asst
He already has well over 1000 career points and has two years of eligibility left.
He may have to sit out a year if he does not get the grad-transfer exemption.

Check this out-
In an early season game against ISU back on November 10, 2014, Max went for 30 pts, hitting 11-16 & 7-11 from 3-pt

Then check what he did in this game!

Max Strus is gonna play at DePaul

The 2016 transfer list has almost reached 500 players-

One interesting name that was just added to that list is David Skara, a 6'8" sophomore forward at Valparaiso. He chose Valparaiso over UW-Green Bay and then Head Coach Brian Wardle when he came out of prep school in 2014-
https://verbalcommits.com/players/david-skara

In fact, Wardle was the first D1 coach to offer him a scholarship back in early 2014.

Unfortunately for Skara, he plays behind Alec Peters. And although Peters has declared for the NBA Draft, everyone expects him to return to Valpo for his senior season. And now that Valpo has changed coaches, Skara will be looking for another D1 school to transfer to.
Could Coach Wardle still be interested in him? :)

In his 2 seasons at Valparaiso:
2014-15 stats- played in 34 games, started 1 game; 5.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg- 19.8 mpg, 47.1% FG%, 29.2% 3Pt%, 80.1% FT%
2015-16 stats- played in 29 games, started 13 games; 6.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg- 19.7 mpg, 44.2% FG%, 32.8% 3Pt%, 77.4% FT%

ISU digging DEEP into the disgruntled transfer market...
seem to be going after every one out there, now hosting Christian Romine, UTEP transfer
He averaged 0.9 ppg - scored 12 points total and grabbed 5 rebounds on the season with zero assists, zero blocks, zero steals, but 8 turnovers

Interesting. Same Christian Romine that according to his AAU coach also has an offer from Bradley but has chosen not to take an official there. Guess both are Digging Deep. My Aces are Digging Deep too I guess.

Love all Valley teams and have had season tickets at one time or another to four of them (Evansville, Bradley, and both ISUs) .

No, I do not believe Bradley is after Romine at all...
the offer from Bradley was way back when he was in high school (when Geno was head coach)..
Although we won't know for sure, I don't think Bradley is currently pursuing any transfers - least of all Romine - the recent mentions of who is after him include Ball State, ISU but no Bradley.

This is no knock on Christian Romine, but clearly he is not happy with such scarce playing time at UTEP and he knows he aimed way too high and looking for another program to give it a 2nd shot. He might end up as a very successful player - but given his stats in the time he did play at UTEP, I'd have to believe even the MVC-level might still be aiming a bit too high.

Note that the mentions of Bradley are from 2014, but then this is not news, as we reported it here almost TWO years ago - LINK

one time Bradley recruit Jordan Cornish is on the move again...
he verballed back in 2014 then went to UNLV, then he left UNLV and verballed to Cal...
now he is renegging his verbal to Cal and reopening his recruitment...reportedly because his academics could not get him into Cal

Was actually going off of the quote from his former AAU coach over on redbirdfan. There it says they did contact him after he decided to transfer. Interesting read but of course we don't actually know if that poster is legit. Regardless doesn't really matter.

Geno dug deep and usually hit fool's gold. :)

ok- now that I have seen that quote- I can't dispute it - seems to be coming from someone who knows him well...
we don't know exactly what's meant by an offer - but it might be a full scholarship offer - just don't know, and maybe we will find out more.

ISU's Nick Banyard has visited Charlotte and Central Florida and seems to be down to those two but no official word yet

Two more from the Valley

Indiana State's Grant Prusator, juco kid who would be a senior, is now reported to be leaving & transferring
Then there's a report Loyola sophomore Maurice Kirby is leaving - but something has to give - as with all the new guys coming in, Loyola would appear to be oversigned - LINK

Nick Banyard commits to UCF for next year - he is eligible immediately
kinda of a lateral step at best - maybe a step down - they are a football conference with basketball playing 2nd fiddle.
ISU was a top-110 team while UCF is a lesser known directional school that is down around 225...

Maybe he loves Disney, and wanted to be closer to the Magic Kingdom...they definitely have some nice facilities down there too, I am surprised they haven't had more success.
