Here's a kid who came close to being a good Valley player....
but I doubt anyone will know this name -
CARTER SKAGGS
He's a kid out of Logansport IN who got a few looks from some Valley schools but he got
no offers..........DESPITE that he ranks seventh all-time in state history with 252 3-pointers over his high school career.
he was going to sign with a low DI but changed his mind & so he spent a year at Chipola (junior college) averaging just 8 ppg but hitting 40.4% on 3-pointers
But since he was a qualifier - he went thru the recruiting scene again after his juco freshman year and even
got a CLOSE LOOK from Porter Moser and Loyola...
...but after a good workout- all he was offered was a walk-on spot...so Skaggs declined and planned to spend yet another year at Chipola and maybe try again for a DI opportunity.
BUT then, Loyola's assistant
Bennie Seltzer got hired away to Washington State to work with Ernie Kent
When one of the Washington State commits failed to qualify at the last minute - SKAGGS texted Seltzer asking for another chance and GOT ONE.....
Skaggs jumped at the chance - and as a brand new DI sophomore at Washington State, it took a while to work his way into the rotation, but now he's doing great.
he LEADS the entire conference in 3-point shooting at .521 - hitting 20 of his last 30 attempts! and is Washington State's 3rd leading scorer.

Here's a story on him - a LOT of midwest teams really missed on the kid
