2018 Valley recruits

I was informed by some close colleagues that this young man wanted revenge against the Redbirds, Braves and Salukis for not properly recruiting and loving him when he was in high school.

I was told that he was looking for a chance to ruin those 3 teams with all his might.

I was told this is why he chose Drake. Playing time and a chance to ruin ISU, SIU and BU. I am interested to see what transpires when he plays us. But the long and short of it is he's looking for revenge. :0

Regarding Nick Norton's choice to transfer to Drake....

Assuming you are serious, that is the most ridiculous reason for picking a school I have ever heard.

But, Bradley and ISU did recruit him-
http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=23487&

And according to multiple recruiting sites, Bradley did offer him a scholarship, though that was the previous coaching staff, not this current one. So I can't see what grudge he would have against Bradley or Coach Wardle-

http://verbalcommits.com/players/nick-norton (click on "Show Other Offers" at bottom)

If anything, he should be thankful he didn't come to Bradley. He would have played for Geno in 2014-15 and been part of a last-place team and the worst era in Bradley history, and likely would have left in 2015 after his freshman year like nearly all of Geno's players did.

Here are his stats for his 4 years at UAB (ignore the 2016-17 stats- he was injured in the first game and redshirted)-
http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/3132482/nick-norton

Good luck playing for Drake next year. Somehow I don't think Darian DeVries will have the same first year success that Niko Medved had.

Drake returns a grand total of 22% of their minutes played - and probably more like 15% of their non-garbage time minutes played, 25% of points scored & rebounds...
Everyone else they will play is brand new and as of now, only Norton has played any DI ball - so you think they are going to pay people back?

Bradley was almost all underclassmen, and doesn't lose much at all next year- yet we still beat a Drake team that was the most experienced/oldest/most games played of any team in the MVC and who had a 1st Team All Valley player

btw- Drake just offered 2018 Cameron Williams from St. Louis area (last week) but he has yet to commit,
- a kid who has no other offers (except DII Drury) & whose only other option looks to be an extra year at prep school then go as a 2019 recruit. It'll be interesting to see which he prefers.

Loyola adds a kid for 2018, a "Preferred Walk-On" Will Adcock - LINK

one more thing- there is a report that Iowa grad transfer Brady Ellingson (2.8 ppg/0.7 rpg) has committed to Drake - but I think that is premature and is not yet the fact...
.. in the 3 days since that report there has been absolutely no other such hint of confirmation. Two Drake transfers, Cory Kuentsling & Casey Schlatter - both appear to be headed to NAIA where Casey's brother is an assistant coach.

Drake gets a verbal from a center from Sunrise Christian, Liam Robbins

he is a 7-footer who was originally from Davenport IA - he appears to have only DII offers with the exception of IUPUI & WIU

Cook (Missouri State) and Robbins (Drake) have signed...
but Gray and Sturtz as well as their transfers at Drake & the Evansville guys - no official word on signing

You can remove Dixon from ILL St. He has de-committed. Not surprising since he was a big Penny Collins guy. I bet he ends up at TSU.

Loyola just got a commitment from a transfer- 6'6" shooting guard Tate Hall.
His case is a bit unusual. He was high scoring player for Greenfield-Central HS in Indiana, but did not get much D1 interest, so he went to D2 University of Indianapolis. He averaged 10 ppg his freshman season, and was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Freshman of the Year. This past season as a sophomore, he lead the team with 14.8 ppg and 5.6 rpg, and he shot 43.6% from three. He was named 1st team All-GLVC.
He must have gotten some feelers from D1 schools, so he decided to leave U. of Indianapolis, and has gotten several offers, including from Evansville and Loyola. Tonight he committed to Loyola.

He will have to sit out a year due to the NCAA transfer rule, and he will have 2 years of eligibility starting in the 2019-20 season.

hey, if the BCS schools are gonna cherry pick all the best midmajor players, then
why not midmajors go cherry pick all the best DII guys?? ;)

ISU still hosting some visits - mostly transfers...but wonder who is going to lose their scholarship...
word is that either or both Gassman & Romine

still not much action - both Drake & Evansville have a way to go..

Illinois State lands 2 transfers today, continuing Dan Muller's tradition of being Transfer U.-

Dedric Boyd, a 6'4" shooting guard from Eastern Kentucky committed after visiting ISU this past weekend. He averaged 13.2 ppg and shot 28.1% from three as a freshman at EKU this past season. Eastern Kentucky was not very good this past season. They were 11-20 (9-20 vs. D1) and 5-13 in the Ohio Valley Conference, and an RPI of 270. He is originally from Brownsville, Tennessee. Bradley had also been in contact with Boyd.
He will have to sit out next season, and will have 3 years of eligibility starting in 2019-20.-

Jaycee Hillsman, a 6'6" shooting guard from San Jose State also committed today after visiting ISU this past weekend. He averaged 9.6 ppg as a junior at SJSU this past season. His 3-year career scoring average is 6.7 ppg and he shot 30.0% from three. San Jose State was one of the worst teams in Division 1. They were 4-26 overall (3-26 vs. D1), and 1-17 in the Mountain West Conference and an RPI of 314. He is originally from Champaign, Illinois and played his senior high school season at Chicago Simeon HS.
He also will have to sit out next season, and will have 1 year of eligibility starting in 2019-20.

So it looks like 2 of the current Redbirds will be losing their scholarships. I'm guessing Gassman and Romine?

ISU appears to be a little short on big men for next season.

Was hoping that my Aces were going to get Boyd, but oh well. Had also heard from a friend close to the program at Evansville, that Bradley was also hard after him. UE actually thought it was going to come down to Bradley or them.

Seems like two solid pick-ups for the Birds given all they will be losing at guard next year. ISUr still has overall size when you look at the length of their guards. I know they are still after N'Diaye, but my guess is he ends up at WSU.

hope they have enough basketballs to keep everyone happy...
Muller also continues his tradition of letting other coaches do his recruiting for him...
..that's nine different players on his roster who were originally recruited by someone else & either went to or committed to another college , then transferred to ISU from another college or decommitted and backed out to go to ISU..
Romine, Yarbrough, Hillsboro, Boyd, Chastain and Jefferson all started out committed to another DI and all but Jefferson played at the other school and then all ended up at ISU,
while Fayne, Copeland, Tinsley & Jefferson also transferred in from a juco.

with the revolving door swinging so wildly over there, they wonder why so many of their players leave and transfer out also...

Up to this point this year how many Bradley players have transfered compared to ISU? Also your point about others recruiting for Dan is funny. Its funny how ISU has been able to stay so competitive with that swinging door. Maybe Bradley should grease their hinges.
