He's a 6-10 grad transfer with one year to play but has played very little in 3 seasons at Northwestern.
He gets 10 min per game and even started 5 games, averages about 2 ppg & 3 rpg but hits only 40% and only 56% on FTs
He has 194 career points in three seasons - considerably less than Callum Barker, Jayden Hodgson or even Jojo McGlaston scored at Bradley.
I checked the Northwestern fans' reactions on their message board - they are quite concerned with all the players transferring out...
but they are not being replaced with Big Ten caliber kids...
Right now, the only scholarship guys they have coming back are Greer, Kopp, Gaines, Young, Turner & Nance- all of whom COMBINE
to average only a little over 10 ppg! NW Fans are a little miffed that the school re-upped Chris Collins all the way thru 2025 and there's nothing positive on the horizon..(they finished in last place this year at 4-16 and are looking at a total re-build for next year)
Even the one year they got all the press for making the NCAA (2017) - they still finished just ahead of 9th place Illinois.

Northwestern transfer Barret Benson commits to SIU. This choice is no surprise. Benson played little in his 3 seasons at Northwestern, and wanted to pick a school where he would get a lot of playing time. SIu fits that description. The other factor... Benson played for the Illinois Wolves AAU program, which is run by Mike Mullins, father of SIU head coach Bryan Mullins, and SIU assistant coach Brendan Mullins.
 
I was trying to find some recent highlights of Barret Benson and instead found this...

it is a video produced by Northwestern to highlight Benson and it does show some on-court highlights..
but every one is just Benson cheering on his teammates from the Northwestern bench...
then later in the video it shows a little routine he does as a stand-up comic.....
There are some other older highlight videos of him prior to 2017 and he does look like he has potential -
 
I am sure you are right that he probably won't go MM, but he is the kind of guy who could end up averaging 15-20 a game because there would be more focus on him in the offense. If he stays High Major he will likely be a bench player or 3pt specialist.

This is the kind of transfer (a grad-transfer) that would benefit a team like Bradley the most, and IMO boost BU's chances of winning the MVC. He is capable of playing and contributing right away and filling a strong need.
Because he will be eligible immediately, but for just one season, he allows the new freshmen recruits (Antonio Thomas, Ville Tahvanainen, Rienk Mast, Stephan Gabriel) time to adjust to D1 in their first season, yet not block them from playing beyond just their first year.
And it allows for the transfers like Kingsby, Nolan, and Final Scholarship/transfer to get past their sit-out season and become eligible.
I know this kid will have many suitors, so I don't expect Bradley can land him, and I know Bradley isn't in a position to just take their pick of any top grad-transfers. But it demonstrates why a grad-transfer would be superior to another transfer who has to sit out next year, and there are still many grad-transfers available.
 
It does not appear that Bradley is involved with freshman Grand Canyon transfer Tim Finke.
Here is the latest report on his recruiting, and the schools he has heard from are "Southern Illinois, Wright State, Valparaiso, Eastern Illinois, and Indiana State"-

Seems like the odds are good he will end up in the MVC, but not with Bradley.

Baltimore native, almost certainly knows Terry Nolan, Jr. - was at John Carroll Catholic High School in the Baltimore
Catholic League at the same time that Terry Nolan was playing for Mt. Carmel High School in the same league

transferring from Texas - 6-1 shooting guard Elijah Mitrou-Long (brother of Iowa State & NBA's Utah Jazz' star Naz Mitrou-Long)
- part time starter- but mostly was their 6th-man...
...avg almost 18 min per game, 6 ppg/2 asst/2 reb this past season at TEXAS
but the last year he was at Mt. St. Mary's before transferring to Texas, he averaged
15 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.4 apg, 2 steals and 38% from 3-pt & hitting 74% on 180 Free Throw attempts!

One of the top grad transfers still available, Isaiah Moss of Iowa, has just committed to Arkansas tonight.
There were fans on the ISU board hoping Dan Muller would pull off a shocker and land Moss, but that seemed improbable.
He was recently reported to be deciding between Kansas, Arizona State, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa State, Cincinnati, and Louisville.
But in the past few days new Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman got involved, and as of this week, it was reported that Moss had eliminated all the Big Ten schools and announced he would not transfer within the Big Ten. So his final four were Arkansas, Arizona State, Kansas and Oregon-

Former Bradley recruit Teyvion Kirk was a Bradley recruit out of Joliet West HS a couple years ago. He originally committed to Drake when Nico Medved was the coach, but decommitted when Medved left after 1 season to take the Colorado State head coaching job.
He then committed to Ohio University, where he has been a starter each of the past 2 years and been very successful. He lead Ohio U. in scoring with 16.1 ppg his freshman season and shot 40% from three in 2017-18. This past season (2018-19) he scored 14.1 ppg. But Ohio fired head coach Saul Phillips and hired Jeff Boals, and Kirk decided to transfer.
Today, he committed to Nico Medved again, and Colorado State. He'll have to sit out next season, then have 2 years of eligibility left.

You are correct that Kirk was a Drake signee, but he actually signed when Ray Giacoletti was Drake’’’’s coach. He’’s a big scorer, but not an efficient one.

you got that right - seems he never saw a shot he didn't like -
he hit only 21% on 3-pointers & 42% overall & only 53% on his FTs and he led just about everyone with 137 turnovers
(nobody on Bradley had more than 84, and nobody else in the MVC except Milik Yarbrough was within 30 of his total...)
 
Former Marquette stars and former Bradley recruits Sam and Joey Hauser have made their decisions where they will transfer. After initially telling reporters they planned to transfer to the same school, and zeroing in on University of Wisconsin, they have decided to split up and transfer to separate schools, and neither will go to Wisconsin.
Reportedly, Sam Hauser will transfer to Virginia, and Joey Hauser will transfer to Michigan State.

Sam is a junior, and is not in a position to graduate, so he'll have to sit out a year and have 1 year left to play, unless he can get a waiver from the NCAA, which seems unlikely.
Joey redshirted his first season at Marquette, and then played his redshirt-freshman season this past year. He'll also have to sit out a year with a transfer. But because sitting out again will mean he is burning a second redshirt year, he will have only 2 years left to play unless he can get a waiver from the NCAA to get an extra year.

Interesting development at Iowa as they look for a replacement for Isaiah Moss, a grad transfer who left Iowa and transferred to Arkansas.
Former Valparaiso guard Bakari Evelyn, who is also a grad transfer, will visit Iowa this weekend where he already holds an offer.
In an interview with a Des Moines Register writer who follows Iowa, Iowa State, and Drake, Evelyn sounds excited about interest from Iowa, and seems to leaning there-

He's a career 8.5 ppg scorer at the mid-major level who shoots 39% overall and 33% from 3-pt.
He also averages just 2 rebounds per game and 2 asst. and is turnover-prone and injury-prone...
If this is the best Iowa can do, then good luck....


Just part of an emerging trend....players NO LONGER want to work to be an important part of getting a team to the NCAA Tourney
...they want to ditch the team they are on and jump onboard a team that's going to get there and take them along as well...

Definitely shows how little pride and commitment these kids have to the schools that recruited them. I understand that at some point you may get in a situation that is not the best for you personally, but the trend is way too rampant for that to be the case.
 
everyone wants to be a free agent from the get-go and jump to the best opportunity...
there are exceptions, like Alec Peters, Donte Thomas, DLO, DB ....

Oh how true this is!! It is so characteristic of this Millennial generation. Economists have come up with a term for that. Affluence extends adolescence. They dont want to have to work at it. They want instant gratification
 
Shayok Shayok's brother Marial Shayok left Virginia to transfer to Iowa State - so he got more playing time over there at Transfer U.,
but I kinda think he might just have enjoyed what Virginia did last year a bit better...
