2020 and Beyond Recruiting Targets

2020 Bradley recruit Jayson Kent was at the game tonight (MSU vs. BU 2/19/20). He is a 6'6" or 6'7" wing guard who has played the 1, 2, and 3 positions this season at Oak Forest HS, a south suburb of Chicago. He has really emerged over last summer and this season in high school as a good shooter with good ball-handling skills. He has lead his team at Oak Forest HS to a surprising 25-1 record this season, and they have climbed to #5 in the nost recent Class 3A poll-

Nice mention of Bradley recruit Jayson Kent of Oak Forest HS by Joe Henricksen of the Chicago Sun Times..
https://twitter.com/joehoopsreport/status/1231331549603344384

Oak Forest is 25-1 and is ranked in the top 10 in Class 3A. They are playing the #1 ranked team in 4A right now, Chicago Curie HS. Oak Forest trails 36-32 at halftime. Jayson Kent has 12 first half points to lead Oak Forest.

I saw him at the last game. He's thin. I think that comment referred to if he went to Big 10 type school. He will get stronger and redshirting may not be needed in the MVC.

I am also hearing there was another recent 2020 recruit visit who is very strong on Bradley.

One of Bradley's top targets for their final 2020 scholarship is guard Latrell Wrightsell, Jr., a senior at Omaha Central HS, who we have have reported on here since October, 2018 . He and his family have already visited Bradley. He has reportedly grown to 6'3" now, and he is putting up big numbers so far this season.
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...adley-saturday

This past week he was named the High School Player of the Week by an Omaha TV station after leading his Omaha Central team to 3 wins and the championship of a local tournament-
https://www.wowt.com/content/sports/...566155751.html

Then he followed those performances with a 24 point game last night to lead his team to a big win over Lincoln HS. They are now 5-0-

He is among the top returning 3-point shooters in the state of Nebraska from last season-

Bradley has now extended a scholarship offer to Latrell Wrightsell, Jr.
http://verbalcommits.com/players/latrell-wrightsell-jr

Bradley recruit Latrell Wrightsell continues to have a terrific senior season. He is now averaging 24 ppg for Omaha Central HS. He just lead his team to an overtime upset win over Millard North HS, the #1 ranked team in the state of Nebraska. Wrightsell scored a game-high 37 points for Central before fouling out late in the overtime.

Bradley coaches are using this week to continue to evaluate and reach out to potential recruits.
Here are a couple new names-

2020 Cameron "Cam" Holden- an athletic 6'5" shooting guard at Gulf Coast State College in Florida. He is originally from Forsythe, Georgia. Gulf Coast State is a Division I junior college in Panama City, Florida, and they are 22-7 on the season and still alive in the NJCAA Region 8 playoffs. Holden is averaging 20.4 ppg, 10.5 rpg, and 3.0 assists per game.

A new name-
2020 Phillip Russell- 6' sharpshooting point guard from Vashon HS in St. Louis. He committed to SEMO last November, but they just fired their head coach Rick Ray (LINK), and Russell just asked for and was granted his release (LINK) and reopened his recruitment. Bradley is in the market for another point guard with offensive skills, and Russell seems to fit that description.

SEMO's other commit, RaMean Hinton of Chicago Curie, also just decommitted and is available. There is no word whether Bradley is interested, but he is a talented 6'4" wing player who is rated as a 3-star recruit.

RE: 2020 Phillip Russell
I can add a little bit here. A co-worker of mine is big into the St. Louis basketball scene. His brother coaches here. He calls Russell a very good PG. Height is probably more like 5'10" so on the shorter side. But he calls him super tough and a good shooter.

I've looked up as much as I can find on him. He is also called a good decision-maker, good passer, and an effective point guard. He plays on the Vashon team that has 2 other high-major 2020 D1 recruits- Kobe Clark, who is committed to Georgetown, and Cam'ron Fletcher, who is committed to Kentucky, and they have underclass kids who are potential D1 recruits as well..
Vashon won the Missouri Class 3 State Championship last year (in fact they have won 3 of the last 4 years), and they are favored to win again this year. They won Tuesday night to advance to their sectional final Saturday.
https://www.stltoday.com/sports/high...90571a2c7.html

It looks like the Missouri State HS Athletic Association is going ahead with their tournament, but with limited fan attendance.
https://twitter.com/ChrisRoush_KQ2/s...48551815282689

Despite playing on such a great team with other great players, Russell was often their leading scorer, and also kept the other stars involved. He sounds like in the right situation, he could become another Darrell Brown-type of point guard. By that, I am not suggesting he will be as good as DB, but that he has the ability to shoot the ball as well as pass.

Bradley is continuing to evaluate new recruits who recently entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. Our coaches are involved with potential impact transfers, including a National Top 100 recruit out of high school.
A couple of them are kids that Bradley offered out of high school and who our coaches have strong relationships with, and who are now transferring from Power 5 conference schools.

That description sounds a bit like DJ Carton, who was ranked as high as 31 coming out of high school and is now transferring from Ohio state. He would obviously be a big get, and to be clear, I have no inside information and am just speculating. It’s one of my favorite things to do, think of who might come.

I am not sure if Bradley has been in contact with Carton, but he has a ton of high-major schools coveting him.

The player I was hinting at is Terrence Lewis, who just left Iowa State. Bradley was very involved recruiting him out of high school-
https://www.bradleyfans.com/forum/sp...terrence-lewis

He is from Milwaukee Riverside HS, class of 2017. He knows our coaches, and is a friend of Danya Kingsby, too.
He had a number of other high-major offers out of high school. ESPN rated him 4-stars-

https://247sports.com/Article/Iowa-S...fer-145192667/
https://twitter.com/clones_sports/st...87732940136448

He was ranked inside the Top 100 during his senior year in high school, but eventually settled inside the Top 125-

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uQPwyTzwtE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hg1k1do4S0

He has played 3 years at Iowa State, and never became a consistent starter. He was always played out of position as a defensive 2-guard, when he is probably more of a "3" and would be similar to a Donte Thomas in the MVC.
He is one of three Iowa State players leaving after they went 12-20 this season (Bradley recruited all 3 out of high school).
He has one more season of eligibility, so his recruiting might depend on whether there are factors that could result in a waiver to play right away.
Here are his career stats- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-ba...terrence-lewis
Bio- https://cyclones.com/sports/mens-bas...ce-lewis/10432

That seems like a more reasonable potential commit lol. I looked him up a little, espn had him as high as 61. And the RSCI on basketballreference.com (recruiting services consensus index) had his average rating based off all the services at 93. He would definitely be a solid addition that plays a role we don’t currently have filled on the roster.

Da Coach posted earlier the Braves were looking at : 2020 Kellen Tynes- 6'2" point guard from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada.
I have heard it is down to the Braves and Salukis-at least right now. But who knows who might still jump in.

From the videos and reports I've seen, he looks impressive. But as always, highlight videos and reports by people who have actually never seen him in person can be deceptive. If it is between SIU and Bradley, SIU can maybe offer more guarantee of immediate playing time. On Bradley's side, there is a team looking to replace their 35 minute/game point guard, a stable coaching staff, a culture of success, and a team that is looking to return to the NCAA Tournament.
