2021 Arch Madness

Drake had to take another timeout as Loyola’s defense forced 2 straight turnovers and a blocked shot and scored 6 straight to now go up 24-14 with 9:00 left

7:27 left Loyola up 24-18. They are shooting 10-16 overall, 3-7 from 3 while Drake is shooting 6-17 overall and 1-5 from 3

This has been a game of runs as Drake went on a 10-0 run to tie the game at 24-24 then Loyola scored 7 straight in a minute and are now up 34-26 with 3:30 left in the half.

  1. Good first half. One thing I noticed is how every player seems to be hustling for every ball. It seemed like our leaders early in the valley season didn't do. Once we got to all freshman and sophomore players they were all diving for loose balls.

Loyola leads at the half 36-31. They really should be up by more as they shot 15-24 overall, 5-10 from 3 and had 11 assists. Drake started slow but made 4 if their last 7 shots, all 4 from 3 and they are 7-7 from the FT line. Krutwig, Clemons and Norris all have 8 for Loyola while Yesufu leads Drake with 10 and Murphy and Wilkins both have 8. Loyola is doing a good job of stopping Drake’s penatration into the lane while Drake is having a hard time getting through screens. Looking forward to the second half.

44-35 Loyola with 15:58 left. The Ramblers continue to make shots while Drske tries to hang in the game. The Bulldogs need to keep this in single digits or Loyola will pull away.

Loyola looking like they are ready to pounce as they are on a 12-2 run in the last 4:00 to go up 48-35 with 14:37. Yesufu got hit in the knee by Hall of Loyola was limping to the bench at the timeout. Loyola has picked up their intensity even more on defense

Drake trying to come back now and after a Murphy 3 is down 56-48 with 7:26 left. Can they keep this up?

Loyola and Drake are trading baskets during the last 4 1/2 minutes as Loyola leads 65-54 with 2:54 left. Drake is playing so hard but Loyola is so efficient on offense. They have 18 assists on their 25 made FG’s.

Jimmy - I love it! Not watching the game, but these updates are great. Thank you! Well done! :)

Drake played the asses off but without their 2 best players in Hemphill and Penn they just didn’t have enough for Loyola as the Ramblers won Arch Madness 75-65. Krutwig and Norris led the Ramblers with 20 points each as overall they shot 26-44, 59%, and were 10-17 from 3, 59%. Norris was 5-9 from 3. Drake tried to get it closer but in the last 5:24 Loyola was 3-4 from the field and 11-12 from the FT line. Loyola will be a very tough out for anybody as long as the refs don’t get too whistle happy. As for Drake the NCAA committee should take into account that in their last 2 loses they didn’t have their two best players and they should be put into the field.

3 of the Drake starters played all 40 minutes in the game, and the other 2 played 36 minutes. That demonstrates how little bench depth they had.
Loyola was just too deep and shot the ball too well. I'd like to see them knock off a bunch of Power-6 conference teams in the NCAA Tournament again. And I hope Drake gets an at-large bid.

Final stats- Loyola 75 Drake 65

The MVC is a very tough league right now, depending on who comes back.
2021/22 it will be an opportunity for the league to win A LOT in the Non-con.

I'd go recruit a bunch of seniors since there's no limit to how many you can have apparently. What a dumb rule.

I'd go recruit a bunch of seniors since there's no limit to how many you can have apparently. What a dumb rule.

It doesn't seem like the NCAA rule that allows the returning seniors' scholarships not to count toward the limit of 13 should be allowed to apply to athletes that transfer to a new school. But the rule doesn't seem to address that completely, so we'll have to wait and see. But as Tommy suggests, if it applied to transfers, it would allow a school to load up on players whose scholarships don't count toward the maximum limit of 13.

Here is the NCAA release, and it is a bit vague on how this rule will be applied-
