The College Basketball Invitational has announced an 8-team bracket for their 2021 version of the CBI-

The tournament will not be played at campus sites this year. All games to be played at Ocean Center, an 8,000 seat arena in Daytona Beach, FL. Looking at these teams in this year's CBI, Daytona Beach is the only thing worth getting excited about.

The Collegiate Insider Tournament was cancelled for the second year in a row.
Their website has nothing new since prior to last year's cancellation.

Belmont has 26 wins on the season (26-4), one of the top winning percentages in the country (0.867), and an RPI of 56.
Of the 32 teams in the NIT, there are teams with as few as 11 wins (SMU 11-5), teams with records barely over .500 (Miss State 15-14), and no team has more than 21 wins. The top winning percentage among the 32 teams in the NIT is 0.750 (Colorado State 18-6), and most are not even close to that. Being from the Ohio Valley Conference, Belmont's Strength of Schedule (263) and NET rank (90) were dragged down by all the poor teams in the conference (7 teams with RPIs>235). But clearly they are among the top 100 teams in the country and deserved at least a bid to the NIT.
I personally think they could have won the NIT.


Looking at the RPI's, Belmont's RPI (56) is well above most of the NIT teams. It is better than 11 of the 16 teams in the NIT-

Can anyone give a good explanation why North Carolina State (13-10, RPI of 145), or Miss State (15-14, RPI 144) are in the NIT, other than the fact they are from a Power 6 conference?
 
Might be another good time for the MVC to make a run at Belmont and Murray State. Conference strength alone probably gets Belmont at least into the NIT.
