Bradley will be one of several teams that won their conference's regular season, but not the conference postseason tournament, and which are not likely to receive NCAA Tournament at-large bids. That automatically qualifies them play in the NIT. Last year's NIT had 11 automatic qualifiers, including Northern Iowa of the MVC.
The announcement of the 32 teams in the 2023 NIT and the bracket will come Sunday night after the NCAA selection committee completes their selection and bracket process.
In the 2022 NIT, the winner was Xavier University. In addition to automatic qualifier Northern Iowa, Missouri State also participated as an at-large team, as did Belmont of the Ohio Valley Conference. Missouri State lost to Oklahoma in the first round, and Belmont lost to Vanderbilt in the first round. UNI lost in the second round to BYU.

Originally the tournament invited a field of six teams, with all games played at Madison Square Garden in NY City.
The field was expanded to 8 teams in 1941, 12 teams in 1949, 14 in 1965, 16 in 1968, 24 in 1979, 32 in 1980, and 40 from 2002 through 2006. From 2007 to the present, the tournament went back to the current 32-team format, with a couple exceptions. In 2020, the NIT was cancelled and in 2021 the field was reduced to 16 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The NIT has played their semifinals and final in Madison Square Garden since its inception in 1938, with the exception of 2020 (cancelled due to Covid) and 2021 (All rounds were played at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas, or the University of North Texas Coliseum in Denton, TX. due to Covid).
History of NIT- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Invitation_Tournament

After playing in Madison Square Garden last year, the semifinals and finals were moved away from New York, and put up for bids. The 2023 NIT semifinals and final will be held the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and hosted by UNLV, and the 2024 site would be Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Some Bradley trivia.... The 2023 NIT will be the 22nd NIT that Bradley has played in. Only 2 teams have played in more NIT Tournaments- Dayton 27 times, and St. John's 30 times. Bradley has 4 NIT Championships, 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1982. That is the most NIT Championships by any college except St. Johns, which has 5. Dayton and Stanford have 3 NIT Championships each.
Bradley is tied with Dayton for the second most semifinal appearances with 8 each. St. Johns has the most,15.
Bradley's last NIT bid was 2007. Their total number of NIT games Bradley played is 44, and they have a cumulative record of 26-18 (.591 winning pct.)

The 2023 NIT Selection Committee is composed of 8 member-
Wren Baker - University of West Virginia athletic director (committee chair for 2022-23)
Aaron Woliczko - West Coast Conference senior associate commissioner for men’s basketball and sport administration
Rick Byrd - former NCAA Division I men’s basketball coach (most recently at Belmont University from 1986-2019)
Tim Duncan - University of New Orleans vice president of athletics and recreation (not the Tim Duncan who played in the NBA)
Craig Littlepage - former University of Virginia director of athletics
Bob McKillop - former NCAA Division I men’s basketball coach (most recently at Davidson University from 1989-2022)
Gary Waters - former NCAA Division I men’s basketball coach (most recently at Cleveland State 2006-2017)
Bob Williams - former Division I men’s basketball coach (most recently at UC Santa Barbara 1998-2017)

I saw one prediction that Bradley could play at Wisconsin

Just for fun, here are a few updated NIT Bracketology projections-

This is one that shows Bradley playing at #1 seeded Wisconsin, so they must be giving Bradley a #8 seed-
https://thebarkingcrow.com/nit-bracketology/

Another one that shows Bradley playing at Wisconsin, but has Wisconsin as a #2 seed, and Bradley would be a #7 seed-
https://nitbracketology.blogspot.com...t-bracket.html

This one has Bradley as a #6 seed, playing one of four #3 seeded teams- North Texas, UAB, Liberty, or Santa Clara.
(scroll past the NCAA Tournament bracketology)-
https://www.dratings.com/predictor/bracketology/

This one assigns the seeds strictly by NET rank, which would benefit Bradley.
Bradley is a #5 seed, and would play one of the #4 seeds- Arizona State, Washington State, Colorado, or UCF-

Thanks Coach.... One note... only the top 4 seeds in each region in the NIT are seeded..... they do not seed the 5 through 8 teams and just send them to play the closest seeded team to minimize travel. So that is why Bradley may go to Wisconsin. Personally I think Bradley deserves to be a seeded team and should get seeded, but if we are not seeded then we will likely play at a close opponent that is seeded.

I have never followed how the NIT seeds teams, but I look forward to Bradley's upcoming games. If Bradley plays Wisconsin on their home court and Bradley wins, will the second round games be hosted by Bradley? Any chance Bradley will coordinate some busses to the 1st round game?

I think the other reason they have the unseeded teams go to the closest seeded team to play is timing. You find out late on Sunday night who you will play and where you will play on Tuesday or Wed. Not really easy to get someone in Peoria Illinois set up to get to Washington State to play on Tuesday. So I would guess it is both driven by cost and logistics feasibility.

I live in Madison, WI. so I would love it if BU played here! It's definitely strange with how different the attitudes are for each fan base. Most people here gave up on UW weeks ago.

If Bradley goes to Wisconsin for the 1st round of the NIT it just shows that the midmajors get no respect. Bradley with 25 wins compared to Wisconsins 17 and Bradley with 9 losses compared to Wisconsins 14. I guess you just need to go to somebody else’s place and prove them wrong. So frustrating….

Let me clarify. I would love it even more if Bradley got a high seed and got to play at home multiple times in the NIT like they deserve, but if they have to play on the road in Madison, I would definitely be able to go to the game and watch BU kick them all over the court!

Also, Wisconsin's NET today is 81, compared with Bradley's 73. So if the NCAA used it's own metrics, Bradley should be hosting Wisconsin. Maybe that will happen? It would be great.

I really do t get the love for north Texas vs Bradley. They have 1 quad win where we have zero, but all 5 of our quad 1 games were with a short handed roster and 3 of them were several starters and heavy minute guys out.

Also what’s absurd is to have the same team count as a different quad team throughout different parts of the season.. it’s still the same team.

of course when we beat Drake they were a quad 2, but somehow a week later when we lose to then they are a quad 1.

Also one of our losses to Belmont was a quad 3 loss and one was a quad 2

So I read that Wisconsins home court is reserved for Wisconsin HS State playoffs next week (for HS practices early part of the week): So it appears Wisconsin can't be a host school (in NIT)

The Wisconsin high school tournament is slated to be from Thursday, March 16 - Saturday, March 18-
https://www.wiaawi.org/Sports/Winter/Boys-Basketball/Tournament

The NIT has scheduled first round games as early as the Tuesday following the announcements, but I don't know if that is enough time prior to the state tournament games to allow for a Wisconsin home game. Of course, we don't even know if the NIT selection committee will put Bradley against Wisconsin. :)
