2024 Transfer Portal news

Yesterday, there were around 200 names reported to be headed for the transfer portal.
24 hours later, the number will approach 500 by the end of today.
I thought maybe because around 30% of the players in last year's portal never landed at another D1 school that maybe players would be a little more cautious, do their homework, and be sure they can get other D1 offers. But that does not appear to be the case. Must be that imaginary pot of NIL gold that means more to most of them than playing for the coach that recruited them.

Seems like everyone thinks that if they played any amount of time at a mid major, they will be in line for a big pay raise.

Bradley’s best WBB PLAYER, freshman Halli Poock, just hit the portal- https://twitter.com/HalliPoock/status/1769976737578786975

Again I say these kids today dont want to be a part of something to help make it great. They want immediate gratification. However I say that in general. There are some kids who value in being part of something

I thought once a person transferred through the portal they had to sit out a year.
Did they change that now also.

Teams fought that in the courts and won and the NCAA decided not to fight the ruling so now it appears you can transfer as much as you want with no penalty. This and the NIL money has made a complete mess of everything for college sports.

Bradley women's player Isis Fitch now in the transfer portal - https://twitter.com/isis_fitch/status/1770215098805612939
I'm thinking all these (five so far) departures from the WBB program have a little something to do with the reason the coach was suspended earlier this season for a dozen games

UNI’s Landon Wolf entered the portal
this is interesting since Landon Wolf's whole family are UNI people - his brother, Logan, is a football player at UNI and he also played a couple years on the basketball team, his dad played at UNI, and he also has a cousin on the women's basketball team

nope, that restriction was put on hold by a judge..
it is remotely possible it could be revisited but NCAA kinda wants to give up with all the court rulings against them- https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-transfer-rule-lawsuit-1649bc30fc93b6ba8ebf0404eea00e82

Has every MVC team lost several, except for the team still playing. Hope most of the starters stay.

Looking at the portal postings, it seems like everyone posted is getting interest from many schools. How will the coaches ever sort it all out?

What if we just made it so all D1 players go into the portal every year at seasons end. One and done. Each coach could just go out and get what they need and fill up their rosters. Then each team starts the season fresh on a level playing field.

It's getting close to that. It'd be like on the playground watching coaches pick players.
