2025 Commit Kai Yu

Yippie Ki Yay - would love to see this guy develop into the next Yao Ming
Obviously not much known about him but if he wants to come play for Bradley, he will have fans cheering.
Considering how few minutes he played (just 3 min per game) even scoring a few points could mean he has potential

If you look at his "Scoring Efficiency" stat (SC-EFF), given his small number of minutes (2.556) - meaning that it may
not be all that comparable --- it does compare pretty favorably
to Meta (1.566), Corey Thomas (1.580), even to Robbie Avila (1.488 ) and Tucker DeVries (1.480) last year.

In the two games he got more than 8 minutes of playing time, he went for 7pt/6reb & 6pt/6reb
If he does turn out to be a star, it'll be a little payback to Richie McKay for his DG double-dealing.

Did you see this - when given the chance to shoot 3's, he "SHATTERED THE RECORD" - LINK

Also- he scored his first college points against an MVC team- LINK

Well I posted a while ago who was next to sign. That did not take long. lol:lol: Seems like a good signing. Have not seen any video of him yet to see how his game is. Or how many years he has remaining to play. Now another point guard with experience plus another big and we should be contending for a title.

Each day is something new..
I asked a liberty fan about him, here’s what he had to say: “Liberty fans loved him here, but he struggled a lot. Looked like he couldn’t hold on to the ball or catch it too well. Almost as if he wasn’t strong, but idk if that’s the problem. Maybe timid? Sad to see him go. Hope he does well.”

Twin towers? Serbia and China should bring the most size in the Valley. Should be interesting.

If nothing else, his length in practices will help our shooters develop
No more having to get Jimmie Foster or BW out there holding a broomstick

Dave Eminian article about Kai Yu - https://www.pjstar.com/story/sports...om-liberty-to-bradley-basketball/83317392007/

One interesting tidbit from the article, and Dave doesn't comment on where this info came from
The Braves will weigh whether to seek one or two more young players to develop and give scholarships to, or perhaps give one to Rugaard, or even leave three in hand. But for now, Bradley is believed to be finished searching in the transfer portal for players for the 2025-26 season.

I hope Rugaard gets a scholarship. I like the way he plays

This makes me think we've maxed out our NIL budget. Otherwise, it's foolish NOT to add the "best player available" or a high school player for at least one of your remaining scholarships.

I tend to agree. There are still thousands of kids in the transfer portals and many of them could help next year's team. The 2025-26 team is still not deep in experienced talent, especially with inside players.
There are only 4 returning players for '25-'26 with any significant D1 playing experience- Demarion Burch, Jaquan Johnson, Corey Thomas, and Ahmet Jonovic. And incoming portal guys, A.J. Smith and Alex Huibregtse will add some needed skills and experience.
The 3 incoming freshmen, along with Timoty van der Knaap and Kai Yu appear have talent and potentially could contribute. But to compete for the top of the MVC and have a chance to win the tournament, you can't rely too much on freshmen and inexperienced players. IMO, the team could use a couple more experienced players, especially on the wings and inside.

Welcome to Hilltop big fella! :-)

Based on youtube Kai moves well for size along with some athleticism. Weakness / softness could be a factor for lack of production. I am sure with the right attitude our coaching staff can help him grow into his full capabilities and he might become a strong contributer! Meta can toughen him up in practice.

This is what I was thinking. Now with 15 schollies, not every signing is going to end up being a guy who plays much, but he certainly should help in practice at very least. I like that he's only a soph, so hopefully he can develop!
