3 MVC games Saturday, Jan. 2

Indiana State goes to 1-1 in the MVC - they win 73-58 over Loyola...
something's wrong with Doyle - he was scoreless with 5 fouls & 5 turnovers
...so we're ahead of Loyola in the standings for the time being!

anyone see the game on FoxSports? Xavier beat Butler 88-69 without their 2nd leading scorer..
but Remy Abell stepped up and carried them, was 7-8 from the floor incl 3-3 from the arc & 4 asst..
Xavier goes to 13-1

With a win Sunday we can move into a 3rd place tie! :)

UNI did not play a bad game - SIU just played better - shot about 60% & outrebounded them
Both UNI & SIU have very little depth - and better hope for no injuries as the season wears on.

Egidijus Mockevicius had 21 points & 21 rebounds!!! - Missouri State's STARTING FIVE had 19 rebs & their entire team had 28.

Anyone see the LSU/Vandy game? LSU's Ben Simmons is a totally different player - more of a Magic Johnson do-everything guy but he had 36 pts & 14 rebounds to lead LSU over Vanderbilt. In 13 games thus far, Simmons has a double-double in NINE.
Mockevicius has a double-double in THIRTEEN!!

In between, I was flipping over to the Oregon/TCU football bowl game - it got quite interesting...
and everyone, including the announcers had a hard time hiding that they knew the game was over when Oregon led 31-0 at half and dominated the game.
Guess what - TCU came back to win 47-41!!!!

Barry Hinson for MVC Coach of the Year!
SIU is now 13-2, and 2-0 in the MVC, with one road win, and their next game is another road game at Bradley next Wednesday. Recall that they were picked a distant 9th place in the coaches & media Preseason MVC Poll, just ahead of Bradley!

Xavier goes to 13-1

Remy Abell just took over for Xavier yesterday, and lead them to a dominant win over #9 ranked Butler-

How nice would it have been to have Remy Abell? Or to have Remy here with Corey Hawkins, Walt Lemon, and others? I am thinking that would not have been a "middle of the pack" Bradley team.
And there are still people who say he wouldn't have made a difference at Bradley.
Yesterday proved that if Xavier needs him to score, he can score, though his role is usually as a defensive stopper, and team leader. He has shot over 40% from three in each of his previous 3 seasons, and his career 3-point average is 41.8%! And that was with him playing against far better players in the Big Ten and Big East. He's never been a consistent high scorer at Indiana or Xavier, but I believe he could have been a big time scorer if he had played at Bradley, as well as a POY-type MVC player.

This year, in his senior season, Remy is starting for a top 10 team, and all 3 of his previous teams have made it to the Sweet 16! He has always been a winner. His 3 previous teams won 86 games in 3 seasons! And he is likely to have around 110 wins when his career is over.

Drake had this one - they were up 12 in the 2nd half then folded down the stretch...
they made only one basket in the final 5 minutes...
They had just run off 16 points in a 5 minute stretch from 9:55 down to just under 5 minutes.
Then they went really cold...
in those final 4:52 Drake went 1-5 on shots but fouled and turned it over several times.
