There are 3 MVC games Tuesday, Jan. 13-
Bradley opens as a 6.5 point favorite at Evansville

And 2 more MVC games Wednesday, Jan. 14-

Availability report-

Murray State is the idle team.

Valpo comes up just short at Belmont. 78-74
They were tied with 11 sec left but could not score after that & had to foul

Valparaiso came back from a double digit deficit late in the 2nd half at Belmont, and were tied 74-74 with under 15 seconds left. But Belmont scored to take a 76-74 lead, and Valpo missed a three pointer with 3 seconds left that would have given them the lead. Belmont got 2 more free throws with 1 second left to make Belmont's winning margin 78-74

I have watched big chunks of the last 2 UIC wins. They are looking really scrappy and playing tough… playing with nothing to lose. A team that should be respected right now.
If you watched the last couple UIC games, you saw the emergence of one of their formerly bench players, Abdul Momoh, 6-8 senior transfer from Central Connecticut.
Momoh was averaging only 7-8 ppg, but suddenly, out of the blue, looks like a 1st Teamer.
In his last six games, 4 of which were wins, Momoh is averaging 15 pts & 5 rebs per game, hitting 37-47 of his shots (79%).
He is almost single handedly turning UIC into a contender to stay out of Thursday.
Three of UIC’s next four games are at home vs Drake, Evansville & Indiana State- winnable games. They are already breathing down UNI & ISU’s necks for 4th place in the Valley.

ISU trails by 15 with 4 min to go in the 1st half, 42-27
ISU's defense ranks 2nd in the MVC and Top 25 nationally at just 65 points per game, but Indiana State on pace to hit 50 by halftime

edit - halftime--> Indiana State 51 - ISU 42, despite ISU hitting 54% (7-13) from 3-pt

final
Indiana State 94 - Illinois State 89
ISU did not play a bad game, they shot 56% overall and 45% from 3-pt
and got to the line 24 times
Indiana State played an excellent game, passing well, 26 assists

Yep, Illinois State loses their 3rd game in a row, this time at Indiana State, and they drop to 12-6 overall and 4-3 in the MVC.
Indiana State is now 9-9, and 2-5 in the MVC.
Final score- Indiana State 94 Illinois State 89

Illinois State beat Indiana State 85-65 back on Dec. 21. Illinois State is the 2nd best defensive team in the MVC yielding 65.8 ppg, but tonight, both teams played very well, and Indiana State scored 94 points on the Redbirds. Both teams shot well over 50% for the game.

Both teams are a combined 10-51 from 3. SIU up by 10 with 5 1/2 minutes left
Drake was behind by 11 at halftime, and trailed almost the entire 2nd half. But they made a late run to tie the game with under 2 minutes left, and after trading the lead, the game ended regulation 67-67, and went to overtime. Drake won 76-73.

3-point percentages
Drake 8-34 (23.5%)
SIU 3-26 (11.5%)
Not surprising for SIU. They are by far the worst 3-point shooting team in the MVC at 27.4% for the season, and 362nd (out of 365) in Division I. But a little out of character for Drake. Their season 3-point percentage of 36.2% ranks 3rd in the MVC behind Belmont and Murray State.

There were 6 lead changes in overtime with the last one being a driving layup by Jalen Quinn to Give Drake the lead they wouldn't relinquish beating SIU 76-73. Not too sure I've seen a worst 3 point shooting performance then what SIU did in this game as they were a robust 3-26 from 3. It was very appropriate that SIU air balled a 3 at the buzzer. Quinn had a game high 21 for Drake, scoring 8 of their 9 points in OT. Quel'Ron House, who made 2 FT's with 2 seconds to go in regulation to send it to OT, had 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals for the Dawgs. Drake by the way was just 8-34 from 3.

....Drake won 76-73 in overtime

3-point percentages
Drake 8-34 (23.5%)
SIU 3-26 (11.5%)

It shows what I have always believed, that the most important type of player that mid-majors need to compete in their own conferences and against non-conference opponents is quality shooters. Teams can get by without elite big men. Of the 2 teams that won last night, neither Drake nor Indiana State have great inside players. And teams can get by without big guards. Bradley has proven that with Darrell Brown, Duke Deen, Jaquan Johnson, and Montana Wheeler. But if your team can't even shoot 30% from three, they will lose more games than they win.
The teams that are best at 3-point shooting are almost all winning teams, and the worst teams usually are not-

Exactly, the obvious answer to this is 3 points is always better then 2.
