The Southern/SLU game is interesting to me.

Rick Majerus certainly has not done anything, yet, to gain any special notice. They, meaning, St. Louis has no real signature wins, and has lost 3 of their last 4 games.

This could be a very very ugly offensive game for both teams. I would suspect that the total points will be 95-110

The Missouri State game at Utah will be tough. Utah doesn't lose many in the Huntsman Center. But MSU might be able to surprise the Utes.
SIU should win at St. Louis, and Wichita State should win at UMKC.
Evansville will beat Hanover (a Division III school that is 6-2).
And UNI should have no trouble beating Wartburg (another Division III team that is 2-4). That should make the MVC 5-0 Saturday! Go MVC!

UNI is playing Wartburg??? Does Wartburg Theological Seminary even field a team? ;)

Who will UNI play next ... Hufflepuff House from Hogwarts maybe?

Surprising to me:
SIU only favored by 4 1/2 , probably because it will be a low scoring game. Mo. St. is a 5 1/2 point dog.

SLU looks terrible recently. SIU shouldn't have much trouble in this game. SLU gets terrible attendance so they don't have much of a home court advantage. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more SIU fans than SLU fans there. SLU hasn't been playing with much effort recently. You're right that this could be a signature win for SLU this year, but I don't have a lot of faith in them right now.

I have zero desire to watch this high school girls offensive basketball game either :)

Hey Dallas,
I am still chuckling about the possiblity UNI at Hogwarts. Great
Caesers Ghost! That would be a road game! It's too bad that St
Marys Of The Woods have already filled their BCS schedule. LOLOL
Thanks again friend, :) In Idaho, I am still chortling.

OK... MVC ... Wichita lost, Mo St lost, SIU lost... UNI and E'Ville win...

But we picked up a couple of 'victories' today for BU.

Loyola beat N Illinois.
UIC WINS AT Depaul.

...and...

Wright State defeats Miami (Oh) on a last second shot!

Awful, awful, awful losses in the Valley tonight, particularly by SIU and WSU. These teams did NO ONE any favors in our conference. I still believe finishing in the top 8 amongst conferences gives the Valley two bids to the NCAA tournament. But it would help if two teams dominate the rest of the conference.

Bradley and Creighton or Drake each winning 15 conference games should give the Valley their two bids! :D

BU's RPI went up 13 spots today to 63, and our SOS went up to 66. Bad day for the Valley, but a GREAT day for BU and our at-large resume. Wins over Butler and VCU could propel us into the 30's RPI-wise heading into the conference season. We can only control what we can control, and while SIU continues to be a league embarrassment, BU's opponents continue to prove their worth. All I want for Christmas is a couple wins... :-D

Re: SIU continues to be a league embarrassment....

I agree.

What's to come of it? (Wich St was #8 in one poll last year) The League or the Pollsters were an emarrassment? The MVC didn't do as great as hoped but SIU still got a good seed (better than I ever woulda thought, really) and got to the Sw16.

So does SIU discredit the MVC?

Or is the MVC established enough..... to get respect for the teams that perform well in the conference this season.

I don't know - but it would be a shame to see the MVC hang tuff in the Conf RPI (hoping Top 10) but yield only 1 (maybe 2) bid(s) because SIU let ESPN down.

I think we have more friends on the committee this year (take that with a grain of salt), and I think league play will determine a lot. The league as a whole might be similar to last year in that it seems there's a lot of parity. However, I think after 18 games you may see 1, 2, maybe even 3 teams rise to the top, and a strong league finish could put a team over the top (similar to us in '06). SIU isn't done yet, despite their repeated putrid performances. They have, by far, the toughest non-con out of any MVC team. Wins over Butler and Western Kentucky will bring them back into the conversation.
