58.BU @ 54 fgcu...

Everybody pretty much said what needs to be said. I'm happy Egolf had such a great game and that Coach Les shook some things up. Egolf played with a lot of intensity and made some great plays for us.

I wonder if Coach Les will continue to work Anthony Thompson in a bit. I was very surprised he saw some PT towards the end of the first half.

Heh. I remember at one point Darian Norris gave this really funny look and smile when the BU crowd erupted after a big shot. He was like, "whoa, I didn't know this many BU fans were going to be here for us."

Yes a win is a win but ...

Again we shoot terrible from 3, 5 - 21 that is just not acceptable especially with all the wide open shots we took and missed... Norris and Dunston come to mind on that.

Bad free throw shooting... 13-22 again not acceptable.

Did a better job in the 2nd half of taking care of the ball but much to careless in the first half.

I thought we played much better defense in one on one sets.

But as was said this is a poor team and we barely escaped.

This team is missing something.. intensity, drive, passion, a go to player... something, I cant put a finger on it but it is just a team that exists nothing right now sticks out and says this can be special in any way. Maybe Egolf will give us some sort of spark.

A win. You have to take it...not a pretty win...but better than a pretty loss.
This team still looks unbelievably challenged on offense.

From this game, the good...
- Egolf looked leaps and bounds better than in his previous opportunities...that was great to see some progress from him. Hopefully he can continue to progress once we start playing legitimate D-I teams...
- Norris looks to be a guy that will develop into a scorer for us. We need more minutes from him, simply because he looks like he might be able to help this very poor shooting team. He should move ahead of McCain in the rotation for the time being.
- Wilson battles and battles...I really appreciate the effort he brings night in and night out.
- Maniscalco played a better game. We need him on the floor...pure and simple...and credit to Les for doing a good job of mixing in more zone and keeping Sammy out of situations where he would get isolated in the man-to-man...

The bad...
- McCain just isn't ready to play significant minutes right now...He has no offensive game at this point and forced some terrible, terrible passes tonight. He looked over matched tonight.
- Roberts is undisciplined....and really doesn't appear to understand what his role needs to be on this team. He just looks like the prototypical JUCO player trying to force his way into the boxscore in his first chance at the D-I level. It reminds me of the struggles that Boogie had when he first came to BU...Chris needs to ditch the perimeter game and help this team defensively and inside on the boards...I really think his minutes should be scaled back.
- Singh just is so limited in what he can do. I appreciate his work...I appreciate the team spirit he brings to the squad...but he just is not an effective player on the court. Misses bunnies, sets moving screens, can't get up for rebounds...He is what he is...he can give us a few minutes here or there, but if he is starting and playing significant minutes for us, we are in bad shape for this year and in even worse shape for next year and beyond...
- Collins...meh. Big body, I'm sure he's a nice kid...but he simply doesn't appear to have a passion for this game. The teases of upside that he has aren't worth waiting through the lifeless, passive stretches that he brings...He can have a role on this team if he wants it...but he isn't going to put it all together and produce on a consistent basis...it simply isn't going to happen.

This FGCU team was horrible...we struggled, but we won...I liked what I saw from Egolf and Norris...Move them up in the rotation and find a way to phase out some of McCain and Roberts's minutes and i think you might see a better performance from BU tomorrow...we'll see.

Am I missing something? We barely won over a team we should have wiped the floor with. And last game we lost to a team bigtime we should have also wiped the floor with.

I mean, be realistic. 16 win season at best. I'm already sticking a fork in us.

Don't be so quick to quit on this team. Tonight Les showed a willingness to try something a bit different... If he is willing to evolve with this talent and he is able to incorporate a go-to guy in Warren.. We may have something. I seem to remember general despondency in Peoria a couple of years ago.. and it ended in a sweet 16 run.

Do I think we're going to make a deep post season run? Not with the evidence thus far... But don't quit yet.

Other than Egolf's solid play, I think the best thing of the game was that Les showed he'd try something different. I hope he doesn't stop that.

Id also love to see what Egolf and AT could do together... maybe w/ a 1-3-1 zone with Egolf down low and AT in the middle

I agree....coaches need to make decisions and COACH.....all game long...
--two things I don't like to see....coaches who stick with a predetermined plan even when it is not working (like the Loyola MD coach vs. Davidson), and the other extreme is when coaches make instantaneous moves based on one event on the floor, like yanking a player instantly when he picks up a foul.
That'll cause players to avoid playing defense aggressively for fear that one tiny contact and pick up a foul, then you're yanked.

This difference (other than some x's & o's) was to substitute Egolf for Collins, which was signifcant, but Les continues to have his team jack up 3's at a low percentage, and for some reason he sees a benefit of playing SM and EM at the same time along with another guard. EM is not ready and even if he was, he should not be on the floor at the sam time as Sam M. I am waiting for a significant difference and that would be playing SS & WE or WE & AT or WE & DC at the same time. I would like to see at least 2 players over 6'6" on the court at the same time.

I was very impressed by WE's energy and quickness. What a change from the "Valium-like" activity that Collins plays with. I hope that Les keeps him on the floor even if he makes a mistake here and there. Heck, Sam M and EM make poor decisions all the time and they still get significant time. I would like to see Les give WE the opportunity to play and if he makes a mistake--tell him--but let him keep playing. I hate coaches that yank some players after one mistake while others can make multiple mistakes and stay on the floor. I sure hope Les does not fall into that category.

This team is missing Andrew Warren's offense/leadership. Let's quit sticking a fork in them and writing them off until we see what kind of effect AW's return has on the team's quality of play and results.

I agree it's a small change, and probably not enough to offset the weak shooting and sloppy execution, but it's a start. I'm just saying it's a signal that the wheels are turning... And that is a significant improvement from the phlegmatic coaching of the first few games of the season.

Even when Warren returns it is going to take several games/weeks for him to get into basketball shape both mentally and physically.

Maybe he is the missing ingredient but when I watch Bradley we just dont seem like an intense active team, maybe it is to early to make assessments but BU just does not have that "something" that good teams have.

I hope everyone is right and when Warren returns it makes an incredible difference, I think it will make a difference but that difference wont be felt until we move into Jan.

G-man - IMO, Fl-GC is bad.

You looking to stick a fork in someone?

Maybe stick the fork in Bradley. DoubleB is straight up and forward in a matter of fact way.

Gees MOB, chill, I guess you didn't get it
As usual, I AGREED with Bradley Brave and he knows that.
You do not tell somebody that "they are the man", if you have a conflict.
In fact,I seldom post anymore because BRADLEY BRAVE usually writes my thoughts and does not get deleted, like I have a history of.

I am probably guilty of assuming things as anyone, but I don't think we can assume anything regarding Warren's return. We don't know if he will return and if he does, we don't know how effective he'll be. After all, best-case scenario he's going to have missed a month of preparation and a month of the season. So essentially, he'll be 2 months behind everyone else. You can't just make that up overnight.
