The effort was very good tonight. The shots just weren't falling and too many missed free throws. It's very tough to play there, and the comeback had the SIU fans really fretting. The game was very physical, and that appeared to be SIU's game plan, and BU did not back down.
I think Bradley fans should be proud of this team, even though the results weren't what we wanted.
I agree with the effort. I upgraded to the Direct TV Sportspack and watched the game. They did play with a great effort. However, I am still concerned about our free throw shooting, especially since we missed the front end of at least five one on one's. This game would have been a lot closer had we made even half of those.
Still though, I would never say that they definately would have won the game had they made those free throws. Too many people believe the outcome would have been different had they made them, but the thing is the tone of the game would have changed drastically. It would have made the game a lot closer earlier, but then again SIU would not be at the free throw line as much since we wouldn't have had to resort to as much fouling. Then all they would have needed to do is to make a few baskets, and they probably still would have beaten us with their defense. But our free throwing still needs improvement, and there's no way we beat UNI without improving on that aspect of our game.
The positives that can be taken from this game are of course Wilson, along with decent games by Norris and McCain. But I think Wilson tried to do too much at times, and even was hesitant to try three's earlier in the game. But I don't know what else I can say about him. He left it all out on the floor tonight and he will be sorely missed next year, though reinforcements will be coming in next year.
All in all, I stated that one win on this road trip would be the absolute minimum, and we have accomplished that. I don't view this loss tonight as a bad loss as it is nearly impossible to win in Carbondale, and SIU is a better team than their record indicates. And they will only get better the rest of the way as long as they don't lose anymore players to injury. So, a victory at UNI is still icing on the cake as far as I"m concerned. A win there will keep us alive for the Valley title, but I don't see us losing anymore home games this year outside of possibly UNI. So, I think the CBI is pretty much a shoo in, but a split against UNI and another road win or two gets us into the NIT and puts us in position for a run in the Valley tournament. So despite the sour view some people may take from this game, I think we still are in good shape for a good if not great season in the Valley this year.
