Ahmad Grant and Simms-Edwards

Unique situation. Has anyone heard of anything like this happening before? (Doesn't play high school basketball then goes on to a solid D-I career)

This is his second season at UNCW. Last year he averaged 21.8 mpg, 8.1 ppg, and 2.2 rpg.

;)

Yeah, I finally realized that and took my erroneous post off. Thanks. I looked up his performances over the past year+9 games, and they have been pretty solid. I have heard of other kids who did not play high school ball eventually making it to D1 and doing well, I just can't recall any specific names.
Ahmad Grant scored well over 1000 points in 2 years at Olney Central CC, and 8.1 ppg as a junior and and now 9.6 his senior season. He was recruited by a couple MVC schools, including reported offers from Evansville, UNI, and Missouri State.-

Jamaal Tinsley did not play in high school and not only played for Iowa but spent eight years in the NBA. I guess the level of competition playing streetball where he lived must have been relatively high.

I suspect his story is not unique, but I couldn't find anything close to a comprehensive list of people who did not play in high school and went on to play at a high level. I'd be interested to see it if there is one.

dozens of Euro and other international players never play in high school yet end up at colleges and in the NBA
I suspect it is far rarer among USA kids - but there were academic issues that kept Ahmad from playing at Richwoods...
I saw him play in the Hersey Hawkins League at the Riverplex and he was impressive at times, and could get the crowd buzzing with his scoring abilites.
Yuba also had a kid a couple years ago, Kyle Rische, who turned out to be a pretty good player for Coach Corn at Yuba, but who had never played in high school..

Maybe the most notable such player was the New York City street phenom Lloyd Daniels, who never played high school ball because of such poor academic performance..but who was so well known as a street ball legend, that someone got him into a California juco to get some grades generated, then onto the roster at Jerry Tarkanian's UNLV ..
where he never played due to multiple issues, most notably drugs...
but in time he overcame those issues and had a decent 5-year NBA career with the Spurs and other teams.
